Ok its been a long time since i have done a board and i know how much everybody loves my boards so i thought i would make a new one. Here it goes.

I am sick and tired of ppl telling me on the news that Islam is a "peacefull" religion that is stupid. I have read the koran and there is alot of stuff in there that would obviously suggest to someone that Islam is not a peacefull religion. What do you think???

First comment was literally pasted from a scource that i was reading a long time ago, particularly the part you put in bold. Second, the Ottoman Kings are often refered to in this manor just like the Roman emperors were why? Because they were Pompous and Naive! It's precisely what destroyed thier empires. It's not anegative opinion held of another group, it a fact held by many historians.

The Ottoman Sultans were not naive, infact from the end of the 1700s, start of the 1800s they knew very well their empire was in decline, and it resulted in the Tanzimat, or 'reform', which began shortly before the Crimean war, the failures of it to save the empire resulted in the progressive development of the Turkish war of independence and the foundation of the Republic of Turkey, a secular, modern and democratic state.

The Ottoman Empire may have believed in Islamic superiority, but why not? it toppled the Byzantine empire, ending the last bastion of Rome, and signalled the end of the medieval period, and its culture and science sparked the renaissance in Europe. However unlike in Europe the clergy were not greedy, ruthless conquerers, they were one with the state, so when the centre tried to modernise the state at the expense of religious morals it created turmoil throughout the empire.

haha, I will reiterate, this is a waste of time but just to make a fool of you i will reply.

2nd comment....please look up the defenition of prejudice cause i think you are having a little trouble figuring it out what it means. How bout i do it for you: an unfavorable opinion or feeling formed beforehand or without knowledge, thought, or reason.

3rd comment, once again you have misused the term prejudice, and once again these are all terms i have read and heard from experts on the middle east.

4th....do i really have to say anymore? honestly, why don't YOU do your research before you start throwing things out there, oh and it would help to make sure you understand all the big words too little buddy.

It's easy cause you're not too bright-Thats prejudice Wink

Firmly believing in Islamic superiority, the pompous, naive ruling class of religious leaders planted the seeds of hatred towards the West as far back as the 1700s and continue to do it today with the help of media and propoganda.

Name one prejudice comment I have made towards Muslims. This is the exact same thing the Pope came under fire for, he quoted a Byzantine King and his remarks towards Islam and everyone blamed him for being prejudice and racist, they weren't even his words and people already wanted his head. Go bother someone else please.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that you know an Arab, practicing Muslim who you actually consider a friend - and who actually considers YOU a friend. Your prejudice and open agression against Muslims would make that a really weird relationship... it would be like Will and Grace with a bunch of homophobes with torches chasing them around all the time.

maybe taking seriously was too strong a phrase, but for example, there's this kid in my lunch period who brought the spaghetti book one day, and everyone thought it was funny for the first day. But he brought it again and again, and all he does is talk about how brilliant it is now, and nothing else, and i want to seriously knock the crap out of him because rather than put his faith in something at least half way intelligent (which does not necessarily mean religion), he puts it in that garbage. then, theres this group of freshman who love it too in much the same way as the kid in my lunch period. I dont know if he or they seriously believe it to thepoint of calling it a religion, but i just dislike their incessant stupidity; it gets so incredibly annoying... kinda like those born again christians who think jesus ties their shoes and so they devote their whole lives to "God".

Really? I didn't think anyone would be that gullible. Then again, there are some who think anyone who believes in God or gods must be the same way.

Au contraire, anyone who doesn't understand the meaning of the word "sarcasm" is the most pathetic, lowest form of intelligent life.

No one seriously worships the FSM. The whole deal is pure satire, meant to ridicule intelligent design.

if you read the bible and koran, and look in history (crusades, witch trials, 30 years war, basically Europe from 1000 to 1700), you will find that both Christianity and Islam are not at all peaceful religions. Theologically, yes they are supposed to be peaceful (moreso chrisitanity), but as humans we seem to ignore such trivialities. terrorists merely hide behind islam to promote their own interests. It is not so much about religion to them; it is about power.

secondly, anyone who worships the flying spaghetti monster seriously... you are the most pathetic, lowest forms of intelligent life.

You're a Christian just like anyone else who follows Jesus. No one ever compared you to abortion clinic bombers.

It tells me that moderate Muslims aren't the type to take to the streets.

Look, there's no way I can make you understand unless you want to understand. But the simple fact remains: there are lots of Muslims against terrorism. (A Google search for "muslims against terrorism" brought up over 2 million pages, and those are just the first five.)

Just because you refuse to see them doesn't mean they don't exist. Besides, you're comparing apples and oranges. Non-violent people don't riot in the streets.

I just wanted to ask you all especially the all so wise and intellectual earthgoddess, why is that when the pope says something bad about islam or some Danish paper writes a cartoon or when America went to Afghanistan or when the U.K. police raids a few muslim neighbourhoods breeding extremists we see thousands of muslims out in the streets vandalising, wearing mock suicide bomb jackets and chanting destruction but when 9/11 or the London bombings or attacks in Africa where the majority who die are low income workers who were the main providers for their already poor families or even terror attacks by alqaeda in the middle east we dont see a single muslim in the street saying no to these so called extremists??? What does tnat tell you????
