I had posted on other boards a couple times about Korea, the question seems to always come up, why Iraq and NOT North Korea. Below I posted some exerpts of the stories, I was lucky enough to hear from someone living in South Korea, the last quote is from them. I'd like to hear from more people in Korea if they are out there....and from anyone else who has an opinion quote:
TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan may boost the number of missile-detecting destroyers deployed near North Korea from one to three amid jitters over a possible ballistic missile launch by Pyongyang, Kyodo News Agency said.
The agency said this would raise the state of alert against communist North Korea to one of its highest levels ever.
Quoting government officials, the article said the plan might involve withdrawing the high-tech Aegis destroyer currently in the Indian Ocean to back up Washington-led action in Afghanistan and replacing it with another ship.
quote: SEOUL/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States and South Korea vowed to seek a diplomatic solution to the North Korean nuclear crisis as U.S. Stealth fighters and an aircraft carrier assembled in the South for annual exercises.
In a telephone call to South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, President Bush repeated his call for multilateral talks to end the standoff over the North's suspected nuclear weapons program.
North Korea wants direct talks with the United States. At the United Nations, China seems to be backing its East Asian communist neighbor's stance while diplomats say Russia, also influential in Pyongyang, is sitting on the fence.
quote: Well, I am living in South Korea right now and let me tell you, no one here seems to be one bit worried about the North. Seems like they think that the threat of the '50's is gone. This is mostly the young people. I saw Noh's inaguration and it was really tense. The new president is really bent in reforming the government, even naming the first woman chief prosecutor. I think that the US will have their hands full in a couple of months after the reshufling is done.

world leaders need to start acting like world leaders and understand that with all of these "big weapons" and "authority by fear" is never going to work and possibly bring more destruction to this planet then ever!

I don't know, all I know is that North Korea is a threat to both South Korea and America. I am South Korean, but I don't have the time to learn what's going on really. I've been busy with other priorities, and so I don't know who wanted to talk first. I also know that this shouldn't be happening. All of this talk about bombs and war is just something that needs to stop by EVERYONE in this world.

I thought it was Kim asking to talk with the US govenrment.....whatever Well cosmicdream that depends on the US government's motivations.I hope the first thing after war is to help Iraq. But however,if they "liberate" any other country after Iraq it'll be scary.

The fact that Kim is the president of North Korea, it's an outrage that they don't wants peace within any countries. Some one needs to let Kim knows that what's he's doing is terrible. There is no way peace is going to work if somebody won't tell Kim. When I get out of High school (currently a freshmen), it might be too late for me to do it, but I am more than willing to sacrafice the fact that North Korea is hurting both my countries (south Korea and America). All of these things that I've been reading under this forum discussed me. All of the things that I've been hearing on the news has discussed me. All the things that I am fighting for in my school has disscussed me. What I am trying to say, is that there are loads of hatred out there in our country and in our world. We don't need them, and need to bring it to an end.

Kim is insane... The people are brainwashed according to what they've said, but I guess some of them (maybe most of them?)know more than they could say before a cam.I agree with freshynoise that if they wanted to do something they are able to do nothing...Even though they may have spent most of their money on weapons, but they don't have much money in the first place.I remember not too many years ago,a submarine from the north were "drowning" when they tried to do something, but in the end the south saved them.heh I also remember when I watched TV,the Chinese government and an American both visited North Korea,2 years in between and it's the same tourist, guess she's one of the few persons who speak English.A sweet typical Korean girl, she was really nice and made you hardly think anything evil about Korea.Didn't notice the Chinese government thingy but when they took the American to the national museum, they had to apologize for the power cut...And they suffer prejudice, autarchy, and poverty...
Either Korea is beautiful, even though the North is poor, but when you look at it,you really don't want anything harsh to break the peace...

Hey Everyone! I saw a documentary on Australia tv on the N.K. situation last week. The stated that King Jong II is 4 times as bad as hitler. They said North Korea arent scared of America and they have the power to blow up Washington DC tommorow. All the food aid from overseas is being spent on weapons, the famine is the worst in years. At times NK have 1 million soldiers on stand by. In preschool they sing songs all day about King Jong. They said the country is brainwashed. Cheers Steve

I like you, you say whatever you feel and aren't affraid to learn something new, or at least look it up. I pretty much figured you would have some harsh feelings tword Japan, sort of like how alot of people over here still have feelings about Germany.

Honestly I don't really see any hatred tword Korea when I watch the news. It makes me feel bad, I have Korean friends and we all get along very well. However we have international laws and treaties against nuclear weapons, I know it is sad, but yet again the USA is forced to butt their noses in as no one else will do anything about it.
I don't want Korea to war with the USA and I hope North and South Korea can come together like Germany and even the USA when we faught our own Cival War.
How do you feel about Japan being involved also?

North Korea can't do anything if they wanted to, even the President of the united states knows that. Come on people, I'm from South Korea, I was born and adopted there. North and South have bee fighting for more than 50 years, ther's no way that they wants another war. Haven't you heard on the news a while back when they interviewd people from Korea? Everyone that they interviewd liked thier country, they take great pride in who they are, and they don't want to go to war with each other. Their childrens are friends from across the borders, they allow thier children play games from some other children across the border. All they ever wants is to unite, and so do I. 50 years is way to long to have hatred for one country. 200 and some years is too long for America to have hatred as well. Can't you see what American government are doing to the people in Korea (North and South)? They are saying that the Koreans can't get back together and unite. Well that isn't true, if the Koreans wants to get back together and unites with lost families and friends they will.
