In all seriousness this is something to be concerned about. Buut is it anything to rush to arms about? No, only the people who have things to hide from the government will feel a need to do it.

And I'm sure they said in Germany during the winter of 1933, "Unless you are communists or Jews, you have nothing to fear."

Wasn't it the government who first created the internet though?
If I'm not mistaken, it was used for the Defense Department or some other military-type services...???
Let me correct myself then if it wasn't, but all I'm saying...
...is just don't be surprised when the Department of the World Wide Web starts cracking down on "Evildoers."
Besides, if the FBI can track your e-mail, what does that tell you - kinda creepy.

Joey - The internet is not "the government's best invention." It's specifically designed so that the government cannot tamper with what goes up on the Internet. It has to do with a system whereby information transferring across telephone lines is split up so that individual bits are tranferred along different telephone lines, and it all comes back together when it reaches its destination. This means that the government cannot tamper with anything on the Internet. If it could, it probably would have censored me by now.

Thanks for the article link redjill.
(I don't like to consider myself as paranoid - just cautious and prepared)
But um, this whole program is nothing new. I mean, could anyone honestly expect the U.S. government from staying away from its best invention (the internet)?
The government can send FBI agents to your house tomorrow, tell you to get in a van, then sell your house, seize your property and do whatever the hell they want to with you -- and you have no say-so in the ordeal whatsoever.
If you don't believe they can do this, then you are sadly uninformed.
Anyway, to get back to the point; yeah, you think this Poindexter-led program is a surprise?
Pah.
Like I said - the government knows all about us, can stop us anytime they want, can throw us all in jail if they want - and there's nothing at all we can do.
The best thing to do is to just be prepared; of course I'm against this, but what good is it going to do to just try to vote or fight?
Well, fighting is good - but do it in the form of INFORMing people.
Ah, I've taken too long to respond here.
But you guys get the idea.
Happy 1984!
