Army officials are getting ready to notify about 5,600 retired and discharged soldiers that they will be involuntarily recalled for possible service in Iraq and Afghanistan. Read the CNN article for details.Do you know a former soldier who might be affected by this? What's your opinion about the recall?

I know exactly how you feel jboogzhottie5. After Sept. 11 my dad was called back to Active Duty eventhough he had only little than a short year before he would be done. He had to go over to Afghanistan for 6 months (to fight the war on terrorism) and then shortly after he had to go to Iraq for a few months. Not to mention my older brother who is a marine was called over there (Iraq) for more than a year. Thankfully they are both back in the US but there is that fear that they could go back. The only advice I could give you is to: 1. Pray for your dad (if religious) that he will be safe over there. And 2. Be proud that your dad is over there fighting for you and the US. And you asked if anybody cared? Of course they do. I know for a fact that I care, but I can't say the same for Bush. I guess many don't know how it feels until they have had someone taken away like we have.

quote: can tell you something, I don't believe in war. I don't feel that we should be over there fighting. Whats the point in school we get in trouble for fighting, but its okay for people to fight for other people that don't want us over there.
Your father, however, does beleive in war. And he was full aware of all the consequences, duties, and responisbilites of being a soilder in the US armed forces. He is the primary one responsible for his leaving. And as for fighting in school, I improved many situations though violence. The world also works this way.

Someone asked if someone I know is affected by the recall. While I do know someone, someone that I see eveyday. My father his leaving for two years of my life. Two years I won't be able to wake up and see him. My father is not going to see the most important years of my life. Most of all i'm scared his going to die while hos in Iraq. but then again does the President of the United States of America care to me he doesn't, to me noone cares. I can tell you something, I don't believe in war. I don't feel that we should be over there fighting. Whats the point in school we get in trouble for fighting, but its okay for people to fight for other people that don't want us over there.

SIGH. I dont even know how to respond to that.
And marine is right, they are not calling up 65 yr old marines ok, it is the ready reserve, it doesn't last forever. They cannot call you back if you were a WWII vet. SuemedhaNOISE has colored this debate with a distortion. They are not retired military, they knew they would be in the ready reserve. This debate is now closed.

In addition, people called back to active duty do not serve on the front line. They take over logisitical/adminstrative/desk jobs at home so trainned soldiers can take advantage of their trainning and be of full use to the military.

When an individual signs up for the Armed service it is stipulated that they can be recalled at any time for any reason. This is fair because they signed up for it.

quote: That's disgusting. And people want to think that "No! There's no draft!" My fiance' served his time and was just honorably discharged and they want to send them back!? He served for about 13 years.
Your firance either 1. Did sign up for the IRR or 2. Did not sign up for the IRR. If he did and he gets called back it is perfectly fair because he signed up! It is not a draft. this post has proudly been deemed racism free by the Honorable Coalition of Bushsupporter, Marine 16, notsojoey, FreeMarketLover, Redrepublican, Jookly, and Luvabug22, and their endless pursuit to cast out the bigotry that hs infiltrated youthNOISE.
