he's just bent on being remebered as a president no to mention finishing what his dad didn't. Presidents who have led to through war are usually remembered well (FDR, Kennedy)

quote: If they were just straight-forward with us, a little bolder with their words, I think they'd get more respect.
Uh. I agree. In politics, the word 'honesty' is wasted breath. If a politician says he or she is being honest it doesn't make any difference one way or the other. They could be saying it merely in an effort to convince us, or they could really mean it, the public have no way of telling. It gives us no greater certainty about the truth, so the word becomes meaningless. It might even make us more likely to think they are lying. It reaches a point where you assume everything they say is bs, that everything is an attempt to manipulate. The way things are going, if a truly honest, straight-talking politician did come along, would we be too cynical to realise it? I think there's something fundamentally screwy about the fact that the people who run the country are the people we are most suspicious of, and often with good reason. If the most powerful people in our country are untrustworthy, manipulative liars, what kind of standard does that set for our own behaviour? It may seem an obvious point to make, but it strikes me that many politicians, as the leaders of nations, could stand to be better role models. Bex

All I want is a President that can write his own speeches & doesn't have to kill innocent people to only kill one person. If he is a liar(Which I think he is if he can't even write his own speeches)we need a new President. If he isn't fine. I still want him out of office.
Have a nice day, SMK13

quote: It's not the lies you gotta watch out for, it's the subtle (and sometimes obvious, at least to me) exaggeration and bias of politicians.
I see where you're coming from. What I find sickening about politics is the endless spin, the endless "will I look better if I say this? Will the people love me more if I say that? If they will, then I'll say it, even if I don't mean it." Example: Our prime minister Tony Blair is considering whether or not to join the Euro, the new European currency. He emphasizes caution when talking to the British public. The jist of it being that he doesn't want to rush into anything. This reflects the british view… Generally, we don't want to take that risk with our economy. However, when debating with politicians in Europe who are keen for Britain to join the euro, he says he will be joining within the year! How dumb can he get? Doesn't he realise that what he says gets spread around? Typical. Politicians only tell people what they want to hear. They constantly exaggerate to the public, spin things to their advantage, manipulate us into complying with what they want to do. And this way of spinning everything, lacing their every word with propaganda, is increasingly a modern method of politics… Generally, politicians used to be much more honest, less spin was put on things, say, 50 years ago. I want a return to that. Do politicians think that the public is a dumb flock to be led? Can't they see that we're smarter than that? that they're breeding mistrust? People can't be tricked forever. If they were just straight-forward with us, a little bolder with their words, I think they'd get more respect. -Pen

Luv: What about Roosevelt, Truman, or Kennedy? Granted that was a long time ago when the democrats didn't have bunch of appeasers, crooks (though Kennedy was an addict and had mob connections) and people totally out of touch with Americans but they were still democrats. Don't go around bashing every democrat out there, some of them I would actually support if they were to run for the presidency. Lieberman and Bayh for instance I think could make decent presidents, though with the Democrats on a collision course with the peacenik anti-Bush far-left they aren't going to get the nomination.

i think all politicians lie, and i think they lie becaues they dont think we can take the truth or they lie becaues it will save there butts. but eathier way its wrong and we deserve to know the truth. the people put bush in office bc they trusted him and what does he do he truns on them. almost like he is taking advantage of there trust and loyitly. that is why i wouldnt have voted for him in the first place.

Yes. I suppose you'll want to know why I think that, right? It's quite simple...he's a politician.
