Well If I understood this correctly, what I think you should do is ask yourself which is more important:

A.) Having a boyfriend that could hurt you just like he did your friend.

B.) Not hurting someone that has always been there for you and will be there for you.

I know that its a tough situation but once you prioritize the choices then everything should make sense. Also ask yourself how you would feel if you were your friend, and you were asked out by the guy that your dating. Its hard not to go after a guy you like but think of your friend and how much she means to you. Good Luck!
