quote: There are subliminal messages in Disney movies telling kids to have sex. I swear to Goddess, I'm not making this up. In Aladdin, it says in the song where he stole the bread, "Good teenagers take off their clothes." You have to turn it up really loud and listen but things like that are all over it. And on the Little Mermaid movie cover thingy bobber there's a picture of a penis. I don't have the cover, so I can't try and find it, but you always hear things like that, and I know for a fact that a couple of the rumored things in Disney movies, are in fact, there. Creepy, huh? I mean, I grew up watching a movie that has a penis on the cover of it.

Just to put it all to rest there is a penis of the cover of the OLD little mermaid video. I believe they removed it in everything new. But it’s of the highest tower of the castle. I really liked Disney movies. Well some. Fox and the hound and bambi were just too sad for me. HIS MOTHER GETS SHOT!!!... anywho.. Moving on. I really don’t think that Disney movies are pulling kids into wanted to be this thin princess. The age group that Disney many targets are really young. You stick those little girls in a princess dress and they are happy. I know I was. I didn’t start thinking that I had to be thin until I was in 6th grade jr high. And at that point some girls are in a hurry to be grown up. So clearly watching a Disney movie isn’t in the cards. And the things that made me want to be skinny were my peers, not Disney movies. I would feel better after watching Beauty and the beast (For the record I think he looked better as the beast). I can just keep rambling on and on so I am just going to stop now. ~Alex~

y'all didn't yoou watch the SEQUEL to Hunchback of Notre Dame? he gets the girl in that one...
and about a penis being on the cover of Little Mermaid - LOL I've heard that one before but I never did find it...
Now about the skinny culture thing...
Waaayyy back in Renaissance times, it was fashionable to be fat. Ladies padded their high waisted dress with farthingales, hoop skirts, and drum rolls (weird stuff) and guys...well they did some odd stuff to look fat. Why? because only the wealthy could afford to look fat. When you looked chunky, everyone was like, well, SHE can eat three meals a day...NOW, we are bombarded by food. Fast food restaurants scream at us from every corner. It's HARD to be skinny. People who are skinny show that they have self control. So of course thats whats considered beautiful.
Lots of love, Lynne

I don't think that Disney Movies cause girls to be anorexic, but they do give out false hopes about guys and falling in love. In Disney movies, they always end up happy and smiling and in love...and in real life, you're not. Oh boy, that was articulate, but I think you guys know what I mean. I know how when I was a little girl, I fell in love with like every guy in the Disney movies, and went into kindergarten thinking everyone was going to be a prince, or be nice, at least, and instead, the boys put glue in my hair. False hope. So sad.

i think its dumb 2 even think that a disney cartoon or any cartoon for that matter would influence someone to be anorexic. if anything a disney cartoon would make u want 2 b able 2 fly or turn into an animal. saying that a disney cartoon could make someone anorexic or bulimic is like saying that some people who watch sponge bob squareapnts will want 2 live in a pineapple under the sea. Being anorexic as I am. I can tell you that Disney or any cartoon for that matter did not give me bad body image. Why would I want to look like a cartoon. Cartoons are fake.

Well yeah I mean I'm not about to go around and stop my little brother from watching Disney movies or anything, because they're great films! But I do wonder… Oh yeah lol Robin Hood… I remember when my sister was little my mum started talking to her about the real Robin Hood and said he was a man, and Olivia shook her head and said "no he wasn't! He was a fox!" Yeah I'm not about to start a war on disney or anything. But I'd like it if they just once let Quasimodo get the girl. I mean people blame the ideal body image thing on magazines… But kids don't actually READ magazines, at least I certainly didn't. Couldn't have cared less. And I think it's probably more the videos and the programmes that kids watch that give them views of gender roles and body image, than anything their parents tell them or anything in magazines. Barbie dolls. I really don't like barbie dolls. Never have… I say this topic is just about Disney but really I'm just objecting to the images kids get from an early age. I think kids are marketed to by the media very heavily these days, much more so than in the past. And I think this is what could be contributing to kids worrying about image younger and younger. I mean I don't know whether this kind of thing has been covered in the states but certainly in Britain there's a new young culture of 'tweenagers', mostly girls aged as 7-11, already worrying about fashion, make up and weight. I mean it's definitely becoming more common, only very recently, and I'm wondering why that is. Even when I was a kid it certainly wasn't as common. There's this girl at my Choir that's about 10 and she's already wearing more make up than I do. I just think it's strange. Nobody I knew did that when I was 10, at least not on a regular basis, and that was only 6 years ago. Now nobody bats an eyelid. What exactly is to blame? -Pen

I totally agree that western culture has projected the "skinny is beautiful" image and that many eating disorders have become the result of that but you can't just say disney movies make people anorexic. there are thousands of other factors that contribute to that kind of behavior. And i suppose there could be some kind of subconcious effects but over all, i dont think little kids think twice about what they're eating and how much of it. Their minds are simple.
