when you come out and tell your friends and family that you are gay what is the big deal about??? why does everyone just expect you to be striaght. when ppl tell me that there gay and just say thats great for you and then some of my other friends are like OMG i didtn know that.

I get so upset when people say that the bible says you shouldn't be gay, and so thats that? The bible also says not to work on Sunday, but people don't carry signs that say God hates people who work on Sundays. Who are you to say whats more important. And while you as an indicidual may not be carry signs or participating in hate crimes your belief that these people are sort of subhuman just because of who they love allows for the possibility of other people taking it to the next level. The Bible was meant to teach love, not hate.

Most teenagers date, and most people recognize attractions at a young age, such as little crushes in elementry school and such. Everyone recognizes thier sexuality at different points in life, some earlier than others.

It's perfectly normal to "expect" someone to be straight as it's by far the most common case. It's like you "expect" someone to be right handed. Lefties are a sort of odd thing also, and people tend to take a bit of surprise to that. "Oh, your left handed, that's odd." This is probably where the cultural perception of homosexuality is headed. I'm very doubtful that it will ever be considered totally normal.

Alas, It is a very big deal. Parents (except my mom who is understanding and I am blessed to have her as a mom) feel as though it is their fault. They think they raise there child wrong.

Other people, like peers and friends, tend to think you are a totally different person. As a person there is no change but now they know this new part of you that gives the illusion that you are different.

And then there is the Bible thumping gay haters, but I won't get into that because if you just meander around the boards you will know what I am talking about.

They would expect that unless you told them different. No one can know any different from what they do unless they are told something different. Plus, we live in a society that bashes people for being gay. Wouldn't you be afriad to tell someone you were gay in today's America? Society as a whole tends to assume everyone straight until todl otherwise, because thats the 'norm'.

As for the big deal about coming out, it IS a big deal to so many people. To me it meant finally getting to tell my crush that I liked her, however whilst burdened by the worry of how others may judge me. Not everyone is accepting, however, thankfully, my family, friends, and community are very accepting for the most part.

Were there not so much contreversy about sexuality then coming out wouldn't be such a big deal. I wish that society was more accepting than it tends to be.

Because straight peole can reproduce and it's against God. Also it's always been that two people of the oppisite sex get married and have kids. It's "normal" to be straight. I think it's freakin' stupid to care about some one's sexuality.
