I'm a lesbian and my friends know and don't care, they treat me the same...On the other hand, my parents don't know...I don't know how or when to tell them...I mean I have brought home 4 different boyfriends in the past year, but all the relationships ended because I told them I was a lesian and can't be with them anymore...My best friend thinks I should wit until I'm off to college to tell them, so they can't do anything like disown me or anything like that...My dad has told me before that if I were gay, he would handle it okay because there are so many people in my family who are, and my mom works with alot of gay men, but I don't know how they would really react if I told them that I was... They keep sending me mixed emotions...
If and when I do comeout to them, how should I do it? A poem, song, essay, or just straight out tell them...I have been giving them hints though.

I don't think that they have been on since I started my account. If they have it is rare.

LinkinParkGurl and sleeprocker both are pretty cool. They haven't been on in a while though.

I feel special. Smile

The original draft of The Lord of the Rings featured Chuck Norris instead of Frodo Baggins. It was only 5 pages long, as Chuck roundhouse-kicked Sauron's ass halfway through the first chapter.

Maybe it was just you Clpo. I hear about guy relationships all the time. They seem to think that because I like girls too that I care.

Well, guys do have an easier time talking about relationship issues with girls, so perhaps that's it. When guys talk to other guys about their relationships, it's usually just to brag. They figure other guys won't care about their feelings, which, for the most part, is surprisingly untrue...but that's a different topic altogether.

You shouldnt HAVE to tell anyone anything as someone who enjoys his privacy you should be allowed a few secrets.

From my experience, most people want to be open about their sexual orientation. But ofcourse no one should come out until they are ready.

I went to school with many guys who dated, Yogore, and I never talked with them about their love lives. Then again, I wasn't really ever in the loop, but even among my close friends, who was dating who was barely common knowledge, and any information about the relationship itself was known only to the people in said relationship.

I was just surprised that you seemed to think guys talked about that sort of thing often. Maybe my area is some exception, I don't know.

I know it feels like you have to tell your parents but don't think that way. When dealing about this you need to be more self centered.Do it when YOU are ready, because YOU want to tell them. Do not do it because you feel you are obligated or that your parents have a right to know.

When you are ready just say it. Don't beat around the bush it tends to freak them out because they think that you are in trouble or something. Make sure its a perfectly normal calm time. Don't tell them after your grandma dies or something.

Oh and make sure they are sitting when you tell them. Wink

Yogore, this may come as a surprise, but girls can date consecutive guys who don't know each other and thus are unable to communicate the fact that their former girlfriend was a lesbian.

I was assuming they went to school together. That's how a lot of teenage dating happens from what I've seen.

I was just wondering though, not like it was a big deal.

That's actually quite true. How much would a straight guy like the idea of having a reputation of "turning" a girl? (Of course, that's not actually what happens, but we all know that high school isn't that mature.)

In all seriousness, I would bet that the boyfriends were too embarassed to tell anyone else. I mean, how exactly does one react to that kind of news?

"Hey, Lisa, what's up?"
"Oh not much, just that I'm a lesbian and can't date you anymore."
"..."

Correct me if I'm wrong, SG, but I would assume that she dated other boys to keep up the appearance that she was straight for the sake of her parents. Most parents tend to wonder when their boy or girl never dates, or at least not without a good explanation.

Anyways, I would agree with everyone here in that you should just pony up and give your parents the news. It's only fair that they know, and I doubt they would react too badly if they appear so accepting.

Just do it. Don't beat around the bush, come out with it. I like Chaos's advice.

As soon as a parent tells you that they'd be okay with you being gay, that means they know. Trust me. My mom said that to me the day after my sister told her. Start with your dad and then he can help you talk to your mom if you think it's going to be a problem.

Out of curiosity, if you broke up with each boyfriend becaue you knew you were a lesbian, why did you get another one? Or even, didn't the subsequent boys hear from the first that you were a lesbian? It boggles my mind.
