Question:
I heard a couple of people around my school are taking caffeine pills and speed to get energy. I also hear about muscle relaxers and things like that what do you have to say? Do you think It is okay to take these pills if they are helping you stay awake in class. Are muscle relaxers okay if they halp you chill out for a test? Tell me what you think about Pills in School. Is it okay if they are prescribed to your parents and you take them for things that you are expreincing due to heredity? Post in!! eek

Choices:
Pills are cool
Pills are okay if that is what you choose to do.
Pills are wrong they can cause heart disease and many other problems physically and mentally.
Pills are never okay unless prescribed by a doctor.

Well,.... Confused energy pills are okay I guess because they could more energy for school. That's totally what I need. lol. Just kidding. Big Grin I really don't see anything wrong with 'em except for people that take like more than the amount tha's on the bottle than I would be concerned.

Acer, yes, people with sensitive hearts as well aspeople who take too much epehdrine are at rsik . However, I dont believe that ephedrine should be illegalized as well.

Actually, loc, have you heard about all those wonderful ephedrine cases popping up? Yeah, it seems that ephedrine was in a bunch of dietary supplements such as "Ultimate Orange" (since pulled off the market) Ripped Fuel, and Xenadrine. Ephedrine is a metabolic enhancer (basically legalized speed, or "trucker's speed), and when coupled with high amounts of activity and a few other chemicals found in dietary supplements, leads to the wonderful occurence of strokes. The main problem is that the supplement industry is not regulated by the FDA. Until that happens, we will continue to have such problems.

Oh well, just play it safe kids.

Acer

By the way...a fun little fact for you all: did you know that the man that created the product "Metabolife" used to own the largest crystal meth chain in the world?

Drugs by themselves are neither bad nor good. Being an idiot and taking way too much ephedrine, a legal over the counter health supplement, is.

Perhaps they are doing ephedrine. I've done it before. It made my head feel like it was going to explode and then my eyes started to burn. Finally, the blood vessels in my eyes started to pop and I passed out. Luckily, my mom heard me fall and took me to the hospital. They had to pump my stomach and pour charcol in me. I looked like I had been beaten up AND infected with Pink Eye. I think drugs are bad. WHAT DO YOU THINK!!!

hey, I've been in the same position. Some of my friends take diet pills, but I don't want to rat on them b/c I'm afraid they'll get mad at me and stuff. Teachers say that it's confidential, but your friends will know who narked.
Anyway, I was really concerned about my friends b/c those diet pills are ' all natural' but I know they're loaded with caffeine. Besides, I've heard some nasty stories about the side effects.
What I did was just try to reason with my friends. There are many healthy ways to lose weight, and cow manure is 'all natural' but that doesn't make it good for you.
i don't know if they listened or not, but hopefully, I made them think twice. Try it with your friends.

NO IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY TO DO DRUGS! Speed and Caffeine pills do keep you awake, but at a cost. They are both harmful to your health, and they are very addictive. If you need to stay awake, here's a novel concept. GO TO BED EARLIER! Teens need about 10 hours of sleep a night, and hardly any teens get half that much. I'm guilty of the same thing. Just don't do anything stupid and get hooked on some drug. You'll regret it in the future.

I don't think it's okay to take pills just to give you energy. Sure, protein drinks and stuff are okay, but you shouldn't be relying on artificial chemicals that you pop into your body because you could really mess yourself up! However, it isn't entirely the person's fault. With the way we live life today (especially for high school students) everything goes so fast and we are loaded down with work and busy schedules, so it makes it almost impossible to really get the rest you need. I think if schools really want to stay anti-drugs, then they should start thinking about changing their schedules and homework loads. That way, students would have less stress and less of a need to find something that will "take away" that stress.

I dont particularly care. If they want to do it, let them. I wouldnt go around dropping pills to improve school performance though, more like a recreational thing, more important than some pseudo education with the goal of making you into a productive tax paying drone.

This is not ok to me. That is really dumb if you ask me. The real way to get energy is off adrenaline, and that is the only way that I need to "get up" as people say, that is all I have to say on that.

Basically it's up to them and I don't interfere with other people's choices about these things, but my personal opinion is I don't think it's a good idea and I don't think drugs help with schoolwork…… Which is why I've chosen the 'not okay unless prescribed by doctor' reply… relying on pills for performance only leads to bad places. I doubt speed helps much, it makes you feel incredibly clever and confident but in fact you're not making much sense (my mum dated someone in the past who did speed, so I know what I'm on about).

Go to a doctor and if he says its ok that u need to then yeah theres something wrong and u need to relax but if not then u shouldn't b takin em!!

If you're asking for a moral judgement, I say of course it's "okay." I can't imagine doing that stuff myself, and taking pretty much any drug is a calculated risk, but I don't think that it's "wrong."

it's their decision - if someone wants to take pills to de well on a test that's their preregotive. i sort of question their priorities, but if performing well on a test is so important to them that they self-medicate, then that's their decision. however, i do think that the risks of taking such medications should be known beforehand.
