I started smoking two years ago when I was only 12 years old. I was hanging out with people at my summer school and they started smoking when we were out on break. My grandma had just died and I was depressed so I took a drag.
I've been smoking ever since and I can't stop. I don't want to do it anymore, but a lot of the people I hang out with now smoke, so it's hard. They are the only people that accept me for me and it's hard to make new [non-smoking] friends in such a small town.
Do you have any suggestions for quiting? Anything that helped you or someone you know out?
Anything helps.

Thanks,
Katie

I smoke when I have problems. It helps me to think better and give some relief.

i have been smoking since i was eight and im now seventeen i dont smoke pot or anything but i do smoke cigarettes. all i can say is if it is pot you are smoking try going to cigarettes and then once you are off of that then quit cigarettes i know that just sounds stupid but that is how my brother stopped

if it is cigarettes that you are talking about then you need to do it gradually dont do cold turkey i have tryed that a couple times and it deosnt work what you need to do is every time you feel like you need one occupy yourself with something else or eat like a sucker

i can tell you this though you need to try something because if you dont start now it will just get harder and harder to quit that is what happened to my other brothe and he is now in jial for 40 years and he is only 19 i dont think that that is something that you want for your self

I have to agree...as a former smoker, it really comes down to will power. I will give advice on what worked "for me":

* I went cold turkey...you haven't been smoking that long so it shouldn't be to hard.
* Remove yourself from smokers as much as possible until you are much stronger
* Explore hobbies to keep yourself distracted (guitar works well..it keeps your hands busy)
* Drink Orange juice to replace vitamin C that smoking depletes
* Deep brething, stretching and relaxation techniques
* don't drink alcohol (makes you jones for cigs)
* adopt a strong "hatred" of smoking....really. I think this is what really helped me. Condem everyone for smoking. You won't gain freinds but it does adjust your mindset
* Look at images and stats as to "why" you are quitting.
* Remind yourself that others will find you more attractive if you do not smoke (really...it's like smelling and licking an ashtray. Who wants to get close to that?)

The bottom line is that there are lots of techniques that people say that work, but it comes down to willpower and nothing else. Good luck!

you should just put your foot down and give up.
you cant blame this on your fiends as im sure they dont force you to smoke. i guess it must be hard to give up...
i found cutting down bit by bit really helpfull...limit yourself realistically...dont aim too high to start with or youll give up trying or jst fail.
each day have a fag less or something.
also try mints and stuff...when you crave a fag, have a tic tac...itll take your mind off it.
and if all this fails google "smoking" .....find out how much youre shortening your life,,,how much money you waste...,how much more likely you are to get lung cancer etc...
quote these statistics to your friends..quitting together is easir than alone...and........
DONT have a weak moment...or youll end p as you are now
good luck
