i love how ALL the girls here just ignored my comment about women being just as shallow as guys. seriously now, heres the truth: BOTH looks AND personallity count! attraction to looks come first, THEN comes the attraction to personallity. this is true for both men AND women, and its NOT gonna change. suck it up, deal with it, grow up, shut up!

Even if the purely physical realm, there has to be a lot more to attraction than large breasts and child bearing hips. If we were all, even at a subconscious level, just going around looking for partners we could most successfully reproduce with, there wouldn't be homosexuals or guys who favor small-breasted women.

So, to an extent, "hot" has to be in the eyes of the beholder. That's a comforting thought.

Basically I think that people don't date people who they aren't attracted to. Unfortunately, a lot of people are attracted only to "hot" people.

(p.s. freedom, one of my friends who is amazingly attractive has dated a lot of nonstereotypically "hot" guys because that's who he finds attractive)

I would just like to say that some of the hot guys go out with other hot guys... And yes, that is pretty unfair as well.

The point of the post is this: If a girl doesn't look completely slammin' will a guy still consider her because of her personality? Now, "not completely slammin'" does not have to equal "female hulk." It can just mean that maybe she is just plain, or is a little chunky, or has a few zits. Basically, she just doesn't look like the hottest girl on the planet. But would you give a damn about that if you got along with her great and were still attracted to her?

I think it's because some guys are just shallow like that. They think they belong with their own kind. Besides, if they want to be like that, than who needs them? You should find a guy that will tell you that you look beautiful in a ponytail and sweats. Looks aren't everything because one day, they'll see you at your worse..and you'll see that true person. One day, the shallow guys will grow up, we all pray.

Shallowness is natural. A human male is naturally attracted to "hot" females for one reason: reproduction. It sounds bad, yes, but it's true. Hot women generally have two things in their favor: breasts. The bigger the better. I say this because a women with larger breasts is more able to support more children, which is fundamentally the whole point of sex. More kids, more humans, you get the point. Since men subconsciously want to prolong the human race, they want a mate who will be able to support more kids. Or something along those lines.

But of course, this doesn't necessarily apply to modern humans, who choose a mate more for love than for reproduction. But we are still creatures of hormones, which is why we are attracted at first by outward appearances and confident personalities. But that wears away eventually. It's all in the chemicals.

As for me, I've learned that most hot girls tend to be a bit...lacking in the personality department. I don't know if that holds true across the board, though. Besides, everyone's beautiful in their own way. My girlfriend may not be a Paris Hilton or Jessica Simpson, but she's still beautiful to me. More so than either of those two airheads.

You're falling into a trap... "How come hot guys only go out wif pretty girls..?" you practically just answered your own question. Superficiality and hormones, people are automatically attracted to 'hot' things.

You could have generalised your question by saying "why do guys only go out with pretty girls" but instead you chose why do hot guys... this implies that the type of person you are looking for or are attracted to is hot which pretty much means, naturally, they'll be attracted to someone hot.
