I was watching a vid on my friends computer. It was "Dirrty" by Christina Aguilera. I had never seen the video before, but I'd certainly heard enough about it on the news, and in jokes or whatever making fun of her because she's "****ty" in it. So I was sorely dissappointed in America when I saw the video, nonetheless the uncensored version...(gotta love censoring...), and it was harmless. She does nothing ****ty in it, sure the dancing is different, but that's all it is, DANCING, you see stuff way worse at any club or highschool dance. Honestly, if someone is thinking everything in the video is all about sex, it's all in their head, there's no sex in the video, and I thought the dancing looked kind of cool. Implying masturbation for a tenth of a second? Is that really that deadly? Stars have certainly been in skimpier clothing than she was in that video. It just made me think about how much Americans just can not seem to handle things like that...I really thought the video was no big deal, and actually pretty good; it was more artful in the dancing than "****ty" to me.

In general, Europe is more liberal than America. For some reason, this means that they have stricter censorship of violence and more relaxed censorship of sex/nudity (I just don't understand liberals, despite my being one).

Iceland, that Christina Aguilera video was probably packed full of sexual content. I haven't seen it myself, but I've seen similar videos, and to deny that they're selling sex is to put a blindfold around your eyes. Sex works, and it's being used.

What I'm with you on, Iceland, is that we all need to relax about sexual content. If we stop being offended by nudity as a country, nudity will no longer be offensive. Dr. S, you say that "moral decay is the supreme cause of every empire in history". I assume you mean the collapse of every empire in history (correct me if I'm wrong). If that is what you mean, I must say that is the biggest load of bull**** I have ever heard.

I understand that it is not the words or content or actions themselves, but our reactions to them. And how do we eliminate our negative reactions to these "horrible" things? By exposure. "Morals" are nothing more than a subjective concept, and nobody can dictate what is over the line and what isn't, or even what is offensive and what isn't. Constant exposure to nudity and swear words would not result in a corrupt and sick America...it would result in an America in which nudity and swear words were no longer an issue. Coincidentally, it would probably also bankrupt several shampoo companies.

On second thought, I do see what you mean by the collapse of society.

In conclusion, BAN CENSORSHIP!

And then, as the books were told, Fina replied: "A can of worms, my dear friend? What has this to do with reason?"

If that was meant to imply "we aren't Europe, and so thus we cannot/should not change to be anything like them", then I disagree.

No, that was not the point. I was trying to point out that American and the various European cutlures have many, many differences ranging from diet to subconcious conditioning. You cant simply "be more open about sex and nudity". We're also doing fine with our current level of sexuality. I watch European programming ever once in a while and for the most part it's even more vapid because they rely on using sex as entertainment even moreso than American media.

quote:
What's the problem in saying we should be like Europe in a certain way? I don't think there is one, it's an opinion,

Oh there's all kinds of problems with opinions. With this one, it's mostly because the reason is "I want more nudity and sex because Europe has it and I like it" You didn't nessecarily say this, but I end up hearing it alot and I'm fed up with it. Some people get the idea that since Europe does something, it must be better, right, or more sophisticated. They fail to realize that Europe is still made up of humans, and humans are dumb, impulsive, violent little creatures.
It's our societies that keep us in line. Which is why I don't like people screwing with mine unless there is some grave injustice occuring.

quote:
don't think there is one, it's an opinion, and AMERICA isn't going to fall apart because some people want to change it a little.

You'd be surprised. Moral decay is the prime cause of almost every empire in history.

quote:
Wow, good point! We're also a lot less open than other places.

But it is NOT "******* Puritanical" as you said. THAT was my point. But in your rush to find things wrong with what I said, it flew right over your head.

quote:
Either wayy, saying "we shouldn't make ourselves better, because there are people who are worse" is not a good reason to not make progress in a certain area.

But this to yourself also. Just because someplace is more open about something doesn't nessecarily mean we should be. Listen to your own advice.

I never really saw why the video was such a big deal, but people will always find something to complain about I guess.

-----"""The video was aired. What else can they do to satisfy you?"""

Not ***** about the ****tiness of it, and lighten up when it comes to sex. Duh, I posted that, wtf is your problem?

-----"""BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"""

Nothing was that funny.

-----"""There's problems with this because we are in AMERICA with American culture and the American moral code. We are not Europe, we have not been raised in Europe. Take a course in sociology that covers the differences between say, American and German children and how they're raised. Hell, Lego even has different kits for each continent because we think differently."""

Wow, good point! We're also a lot less open than other places. Either wayy, saying "we shouldn't make ourselves better, because there are people who are worse" is not a good reason to not make progress in a certain area. Reach for the stars, Dr. S, reach for the stars!

-----"""Put things into perspective before complaining about some trashy music video."""

Actually, I was saying that it was stupid people complained about the video in the first place. If you don't like it being an old topic, that's okay, I don't care, I don't really mind if someone does that to illustrate a point. Plus, it was new to me, I just saw it and remembered all the crap I heard about it, on the news, jokes on late night shows, comments from people, whatever. Does that count as complaining? If so, then your post was as much if not more complaining than mine was. Dr. S, you need to put things into perspective before complaining about comments on a certain music video. Stop being an ***.

Ive seen a foreign film, and yes I saw the freedom... We have the rating system to keep little kids from seeing the nasty stuff in shows, movies, and music videos, so why not just show stuff uncensored...

I think this explains a lot.

The European media isn't any better than the American Media. They're just biased in a different direction.

Try and see how far you get with a violent videogame over there.

America is the country that made up censorship.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Please. Organized government censorship has been around centuries before America even existed. Where was it most prevailant? Good ol' Europe.

In any case, the video is old, and the song sucks. There's problems with this because we are in AMERICA with American culture and the American moral code. We are not Europe, we have not been raised in Europe. Take a course in sociology that covers the differences between say, American and German children and how they're raised. Hell, Lego even has different kits for each continent because we think differently.

As far as sexuality goes, America is a hell of a lot more open than other places. Put things into perspective before complaining about some trashy music video.

I think we are being spoon fed by the government in all aspects of the media. If you go to European countries, they tell the news like it is, they talk about the war and supernatural things that occur. They are more open about sexuality and the body, like if there is a commercial for body wash they will show the woman from the waist up, boobs and all.

much luv

I agree with you, Ice. I haven't seen the video, but I mean how bad could it be? I wish we were more like Spain and France when it came to that kind of thing. Sex and nudity doesn't phase them at all.
