i've had acne for years and only now, ( im 13 ) has it started to clear up. remember--wash your face, even with water, as often as poss, and dont used oily wipes. also , i cut down my dairy intake and that helped alot. best of luck x

I would tell her to ask her dermatologist and her physician. maybe its a hormonal imbalance. you could try and find a professional drying lotien or something to soothe severly irritated skin. u could try bio-oil i know that helps with scarring. thers also the Zeno it can be purhcased at mass retailers wal-mart and drugstores or online.I use Acne-Free it's like Pro-Active. I would tell her not to exfoliate her face and keep her hair pulled away from her face and also to not touch her face alot. she might also like to try baby powder around her hair line so scalp oil dosent get rubbed onto her face.im gonna try the purell trick ive never heard of that i hope it helps. tell her i hope her face gets better.-lex

It sounds like she is already seeing a dermatologist for her acne, so I would advise her to take up her situation with him or her. Let her know to change her pillowcase at least once a week, and to use a non-oily moisturizer, perhaps Patricia Wexler oil-free hydrator (found at Bath and Body Works) or Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer (which you can usually get at department stores). It is important to moisturize when you have oily skin, because it tricks your skin into thinking that it doesn't need to produce as much oil. (Just make sure it's oil free...or it will cause a major breakout!) Also, when my skin was really bad, I would keep oil absorbing tissues (to blot my face during the day to keep my face from getting UBER-SHINY) and a small bottle of Purell in my purse. (The Purell was for when I noticed a new outbreak at school and didn't have access to any of my anti-acne goop...I would dab on the Purell to help kill the bacteria and it would also help keep me from picking...) My acne finally cleared up (more or less) when I went on Accutane. It's pretty hardcore stuff that's the last resort for acne. It may come to that for your cousin, although it has a lot of unpleasant side-effects, so any responsible dermatologist will make you exhaust all other possibilities first. Maybe she should ask about Retin-A Micro the next time she's at the dermatologist?
