German, it probably would have been good to mention that when I said it is part of my culture.
To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. -Teddy Roosevelt
Yeah, I drink. I drink koolaid, soda, tea, water,....and so on and so on. Heck no I don't drink anything bad. Why do people drink underage? I would like to know that to. Its stupid and down right dumb. Why get drunk off of alcohol when you can get hiper off of sodas. lol. If you want to drink, go ahead, no one's stopping you. I'll stick to koolaid and milkshakes. lol, seriously.
quote:This is partially true, but Germany has of late been seeing an increase in the rate of under 18 alcoholics and binge drinkers. A lot people suspect this is due to heavy advertisement that has come out for the newer "candy flavored" drinks. These drinks were originally tested in England because the alcohol companies in England were starting to lose large amounts of sales to controlled substances. The marketing technique they developed was to sell their products solely on the fact that it’s intoxicate and it has worked very effectively. But enough of the tangent.
I think its like 1 out of 3 germans drink to get drunk... I'm a german citizen and this is true.
quote: Well, this is what I usually drink within the period of an hour or two. It's usually in rum and cokes or whiskey sours or whatnot, and with food. So that might have some effect, but still, that's what it ususally takes to get me in that spot where i'm drunk but still remembering *most* things. Oh, and I'm mostly Irish and German, that might have an effect also.
And, I'm proud to say I've never gotten sick. Huzzah.
whiskey sours and jackn' coke are not shots. These are mixed drinks, probably watered down too...
I drank alcohol when I was under age because beer is part of my culture. Beer is more a less a drink for dinner time for me.
quote: In Germany, where the drinking age is 16, most people don't get super wasted when they drink. They just have one or two to loosen up. (I'm not trying to speak for all Germans here, it's just what I know from German friends and friends who have visited Germany.)
German youth learn to drink in the home, drinking wine and beer in the presence of their parents, so they learn to drink responsibly and appreciate what they're putting in their body. It's so smart to let kids explore their limits BEFORE they learn to drive (18 is the driving age in Germany).
I get the impression that in Germany drinking is not such a big deal. In America, if you want to get booze you have to get a fake I.D. or get an older sibling to buy it for you. I'm not yet legal (I'm still three years off) but I've never been much of a drinker. Sure, I've had drinks before, but not to get wasted. I don't have a problem with underage drinking aside from the fact that it's illegal (so kids get caught) and that teens often drink just to get super drunk, which, in my mind, is rarely appropriate.

"Do you realize that fluoridation is the most monstrously conceived and dangerous communist plot we have ever had to face?"
My answer? Because it's "taboo." Drinking is that it's something that appeals to a lot of American teens because they're not technically supposed to drink.

People who drink underage generally drink for the same reasons people who are over 21 drink. The only real difference is that if you're not done going through puberty or putting on weight, alcohol will have a greater effect on your body. And, of course, "we're young, so we can't possibly make good decisions".
As long as you know alocoholism doesn't run in your family, and as long as you drink responsibly, I don't see anything wrong with underage drinking. In fact, I bet if the government abolished the drinking age, teenagers would get drunk and go crazy a lot less, just because the thrill of doing something taboo would be gone.
And then, as the books were told, Fina replied: "A can of worms, my dear friend? What has this to do with reason?"
I dont think drinking makes me "cool" thats just something the people who dont drink say. I drink because it helps me become more social and I have a lot of fun.
