I'd like to hear other people's views on alcoholism. I've grown up around it and I think it's horrible. It leaves scars and memories that are likely to inspire my own self-induced amnesia.

Is it a matter of surroundings? Are you bound to be an alcoholic if you grow up around it? Is it good? Bad? What are your personal experiences with it?
