Yea I didn't know how they were saying it...which is why I was asking. If anything, the people having sex have to be more mature than those not...we're the ones that have to deal with the consequences and relationship issues and stuff...the ones that abstain are just sittin alone not worrying about anything...or having any fun.

One boy, one girl. Two hearts beatin wildly. To put it mildly it was love at first sight. He smiled, she smiled, they knew right away. These were the days they'd been waitin for all their lives. For a moment the whole world, revolved around one boy and one girl.

anyways... sex or abstinence is based on how mature you are so it really varies from person to person...

Are you saying that people who practice abstinence are more mature than those of us who have sex?

I was 14 when I had sex. I did it because I was with a guy that I love and I really don't regret it....

Wow CelticNewAger! I had never heard of that tradition before! I am 16 and a virgin and plan on staying that way for a long while, and i just find that tradition to be very interesting! I'm sure if i grew up with it, it would seem a natural thing, but i can't even imagine what that would be like! I'm American, but I am not stereotypically sexually active as many American girls are labled as being... i am definately not ready for any of that.

You just gave me a serious culture-shock! i thank you! Smile

I know you can't physically take it back---you did indeed have sex. But I think it's possible to do so mentally.

Yeah, but the party itself varies country to country. The Mexican and Puerto Rican quinceañeras are extremely different, for example.

What if you don't have a boyfriend Celtic? And I've been meaning to ask, is this specifically puerto rican or a spanish tradition as a whole?

Trust me, most girls at this age have boyfriends...

In any case, if they don't, it's with a close friend that will no spread rumours or anything (unless he wants to be killed by the girl's brothers or her grandfather).

I think it's only a Puerto Rican tradition; I've never heard of it done in any other Latin country.

No, it's not really anything. you are just sacrificing something because you only want to do it with one person. Not having sex doesn't make someone special or anything so no, it's not really something.

To clarify, I lived in Russia for a few months, but I am not Russian.

About the tradition, it's Puerto Rican (I am Puerto Rican). When a girl turns 15, a series of things happen so that she is considered a "woman". Like, first your church gives you this medal, then your father trades your slippers for heels, then you loose your virginity. Don't fret, we're not put into a cave and forced to have sex, you have sex with your boyfriend, and you don't have to follow any specific rules as to where or anything. It's just very expected of you to have sex that day.

That tradition started because in colonial times till around the 1910's, girls were married at 15.

Wow..if I lived in Russia...I wouldn't have been considered a virgin at like 8.

Girls are sometimes 9 and are not considered virgins, even though they haven't had intercourse itself.

The concept in the US is the most twisted concept I've ever seen. There (from what I've seen), you're still a virgin if you've given/received oral sex, "touched" another person, and even stuck a sex toy up your vagina. In Russia, if you already know how to "please", you are not considered a virgin anymore.

This is based solely on what I saw.

Wow..if I lived in Russia...I wouldn't have been considered a virgin at like 8. I do believe the whole you can do oral and touch ppl and well I've never done the other but I guess if you must do that then you'd still be a virgin...idk why teh hell you'd do that though when you can just **** a real guy...I wanna know more about that tradition thing though...I've never heard about the whole losing it at 15 as a tradition. I know here in bev hills it's kinda like lose it as fast as you can but it's not like a tradition...it's just kinda what we do...but basically if you do anything up to actual sex...you're still a virgin...if I were in Russia I would have lost it at 8 if it were just like "oh do you know what to do if you're with a guy" and if it were actually making out/touching him i would have lost it at 10...idk if I could handle living in Russia...

Everyone is saying this is bs (and I'm sure it is in some cases) but think of it like this: You have sex because you think you want to or (like a lot of teens) you think you should. You regret it later and decide not to make the mistake again (i.e. wait until marriage to have sex again). I guess you can't really call that person a "born again virgin" but I think it's not exactly invalid to say that.

*By personal mistake, I do not mean that it is a mistake to have sex before marriage. I mean that person thinks they have made a mistake in their own life. Just clarifying so I don't get crucified.

Why is this "morality"? Perversion is only ignoring a human desire, and lust is a human desire. Immorality is lying, and lying is indeed what one does when one refuses to acknowledge one of their sides, such as sexuality.

Read Sade. In fact, everyone, whether you're a Christian virgin or a street walker, read Sade. And no, not the singer Sade you morons, Marquis de Sade.

In any case, I'd like to point out to you that not everyone here is American, for example, I'm not American. One's cultural/religious/etc views affect how you see sexuality, and you must respect that and not call us "immoral" for it.

im still a virgin because i havent found the right person yet. when im old and looking back, i want to not have any regrets about my first. so when i find the right person, ill do it. i dont care about the sex before marriage thing and it is a personal choice.
