Cutting has become this cool thing to do, and everyone who does it just wants attention because its visable if they want it. If you really want to get that rush, pluck youre pu-bic hairs.... Believe me you will get an intense feeling from that; whoa. Those cutter hahahahahahha I think they suck at life, they need to do some real stuff like pluck, plucking is the only way to get relief.

I want to go to Parsons School of Design..eventually..and art helps alot for me (I have practically a room full of canvases I draw etc. also but when I'm upset I only paint I don't know why I just lose inspiration to do any of the other stuff) just not always but that also goes along with lack of self-control. Papercranberry-I've never tried meditation but I do yoga. It relieves a lot of stress and you feel so relaxed when you're finished.

I found this quite amusing, bauhaus. It's a shame some people don't get your humor. "You learn about equality in the classroom but you find out about it in life" - Campus Confidential www.myspace.com/yogore

i say anyone in need of an emotional break should resort to meditation instead.
That takes skill. And its highly beneficial, from what i hear.
Successful meditators can subject themselves to some extreme situations and come out unharmed and at peace with nature. It's like having superpowers within your reach..
Plus, we all know its cooler to say "im a meditator" as compared to "im a cutter."

Yeah I am I'll be sixteen in two weeks. I'm not saying you wouldn't understand why I'd do it. I already explained why I did I'm saying you wouldn't understand how it relieves emotional pain, for me at least. It just does, the physically pain takes my mind off it I guess. And it does leave you in a worse place, I don't know about anyone else but afterwards usually I'd feel guilty about it but I'd always do it again anyway because I guess I don't have the self control to stop or I'm just not ready to stop. I'm not the typical 14-15 year old anyway but that's another story. I'm not someone stupid doing it for attention if I was I'd be flaunting it instead of doing everything to hide it, here is the only place I talk about it besides with my boyfriend and best friend. And I do have a hobby I'm an artist hence the username, icon, and siggy. Of course I've thought of painting or something instead and a lot of times I do but it doesn't work for me.

wow nice answer, is that what you tell yourself? when people ask you why you do stuff is your answer "because" or "because i felt like it." You cant even explain it yourself. That answer sounds like it would come from one of those typical 14-15 year old girls... haha edit: I just checked your profile and you are a 15 year old girl... bahahaha damn I'm good.

I don't understand how it can take emotional pain away, I mean you know what youre doing is wrong, and what youre doing is pretty bad in the first place. So once it wears off I think it leaves you in a lower point then when you first started. How come anti depressents don't work? Or if you took up a hobbie, go on vacation etc. Something to get your mind off it.

Well, this wasn't asked to me but I'll answer because I don't think the other person is. I cut because I don't handle emotional pain well. When life is spinning out of control, or at least I think it is I feel like cutting is the only pain I can control. Also they physical pain makes the emotional pain go away for me, well temporarily. Also not only teens cut. I know quite a few people in their twenties that do it, and they'd be considered adults. Though I do somewhat agree with you. In some circumstances cutting has definately become the "cool" thing to do and you do see people doing it for attention and that really annoys me but I think it's unfair to stereotype and put all cutter in the catergory. I don't want attention from it if I did I'd be telling everyone and wearing shorts sleeves flaunting it to anyone that would look. I don't do that though every few people know and I'm always going to great lengths to hide it.

I think all forms of this including all of the "creative" ways you listed and cutting and plucking are...well...kinda stupid. Instead of wallowing in self-pity and hatred and doing stupid, harmful things to "take away the pain" do something about your situation...or at least do something constructive with yourselves instead of something harmful. It's just dumb.

I repeat my comment. Except change the "smart and wise" comment to "new and stupid." Can't believe I mixed that one up...
