Holaparabola. Someone told me that a good way to stop OCD habits is to replace them with smaller, less hindering ones. I can see how this is good for some stuff, but it seems like it can also suck quite a bit. Someone said to replace not stepping on cracks by blinking every time you step on them, but won't that just get you blinking all the time? So is there a way to totally stop a compulsion, or is it hopeless for OCDers? (Mainly I'm worried about stepping on cracks, counting, and having a song constantly playing in your head.)(And I hear the song thing is not OCD--But something "related" to it. Anyone know what it is? =/ )

Byyyy the way. Do any of you people have OCD? (I'm sure you do. The internet was made for oddballs like us) Or any certain compulsions?

I have to have things even or straight. When I'm on AIM there has to an even amount of LOL's said..like if someone says lol i cant leave it hanging..and when im eating something say pringles i always count them and have an event amount..oh and when i make crackers with cheese it seriously takes me about 15 minutes cause i have to cut the cheese perfectly even to the cracker edges..then when im at the dinner table i have to have the table a certain amount away from me and the pages in a book are folded it drives me nuts i have to make it straight again or when im shooting hoops or like doing toe touches for poms i have to do an even amount of them or i cant stop and i hate when someone says its 9:27 i always round to the 15's its either 9, 9:15 9:30 or 9:45 also i cant stand when u have like 3 bucks i need either 0, 5, 10, or so on i have to ask people for the extra to make it lol and i hate when the h's or the l's in your handwriting arent perfectly straight or when handwriting leans over i have to re write it and i cant finish a sentence mid line...i have to stop exactly at the right margin on lined paper

thats a good idea... i think i should try that. i might wind up compulsively snappign the rubber band, but hope fully that would still be viewed as more "normal" than other compulsions i may accidentally let show in public.

Then I'd compulsively snap the rubber band. *Shrug.*

Many of my friends tease me about being OCD. I've actually read about the rubber-band thing. Good idea.

I don't know if I have OCD, (more and more people every day are telling me that I do) but when I have "compulsions" or thoughts that I don't want to have (same sort of thing) I either slap my hand, or I've taken to wearing a rubber band around my wrist and just snapping it, and it doesn't seriously injure you, but it scatters the compulsion/thought away.

No, it only sucks if it disrupts your life.

Well I'm in trouble then.

I have a few different things with my OCD. The only one I ever got over was that I couldn't drink out of green glass.

One day my friend Adam just sat a glass of water in front of me, sat across from me and said "drink it" and I did, and now I can do it. It was weird. I still can't eat off of certain plates, I have to walk on certain sides of people, and I count the words that people say to me when I am nervous or angry...

But hey, I can drink out of green glass! Score!

Blue food was "poisonous", never really got a rational answer, it just was. That was the OCD part of it.

The good thing was I got all the blue M&Ms. Big Grin

I think I used to frustrate my parents because I couldn't give a straight answer. "Did you take your asthma medicine?" "Yes." "Are you sure?" "No." They'd ask if I was lying and I'd say no. I'd think on it some more and say yes.

When you have OCD, reality is skewed. For many people its hard to tell what's real. You start questioning your own senses. You know you turned the light off. You see the light is off and the switch is off and is in a safe position. But you have to turn it off again anyways.

DrS, why couldn't she eat anything blue? (Besides OCD obviously.) I mean, like what motive was behind it.

Yeah my ex-girlfriend has it. Had to count stairs, and couldn't eat anything blue, among other things. Some of it was annoying but you can work past a lot of it.

My brother has OCD, he would always have to wash his hands, then it turned into eye lash plucking, and now he always has to wash his clothes.

Its pretty annoying.

I have OCD, not too badly but I have it. It's not very fun. I'm still looking for ways to get over it.

Like DrS. said. But its also usually unpleasant and if not done correctly as the person "needed" it to be done, in there mind something bad may happen.

Have you ever watched the detective show "Monk?" Monk suffers from OCD among other phobias. He has to touch every pole on the sidewalk, which is similar to the crack thing. Its an interesting show. I suggest watching it.

There's a difference, they have a compulsion to do these rituals otherwise things will go wrong, or something like that. It's little tics like counting things, having things in order, not touching certain things, etc.
