I got into a conversation with some one about this.
from a religious point of veiw animals are supposed to be perfect. remeber sacrafices can only be made if they are ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. animals were never given any type of commandment. it's not a sin unless you KNOW it's wrong. well animals don't go to heaven, they're perfect, ect.

so do they have souls?
and do you believe that you have to KNOW something's wrong before it's a sin?

Of course They have souls. Infact we are all souls and we get bodies according to our desires and deeds. Commiting too many sins sends us to lower bodies like animal bodies or plant or insect bodies.Eg(If you eat too much meat you are born a lion) Sounds like crap? It is not. Rebirth is a fact and the fact that you have got a human birth will make you appreciate it more. but just appreciating is not enough. you must take steps to prevent your next birth from being a dog or a spider. Visit your nearest centre of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) for more details.

oh man, i never sacrifice animals. ive only used deerskin for my drum. and i have animals that help me with my magick, but i dont hurt them in any way

that's a really good way of explaining that. i meant to say something about it but forgot.

i found something i wrote in my journal once, might sound stupid to some but whatever.

"my friend told me that animals do not have souls. i think that really sucks. if it's possible what would the feeling be if you lost your soul. i'm guessing you can live without it, but it would be an empty life because your soul is WHO you are. it's everything about you. only god can see it. others can sense it but only god can really see it. but i guess animals have never known what it's like to have a soul so for tem they're not evil or empty. well maybe they are kind of empty but they don't really know it. i'm starting to confuse myself.

humans have three layers. Body, spirit, soul. the body is what people see. clumsy, awkward and annoying is your body. the spirit on the other hand is inside the body. it's what leaves you when you die. in heaven that's what you will look like, whatever your spirit looks like. the soul is EVERYTHING. it's inside the spirit and it goes with you to heaven.

but to me it's kind of sad that animals may not have that. they are just here to live, we eat them, they die. that's awful. but maybe i have it all wrong. maybe animals do have souls, i'm just too much of a moron to see it. oh well, god only knows.

Animals do not have to be, nor can they be with you in the full presence of God. Thus they do not have souls. True, we are all animals, but we are in a higher class than all the other animals. The qualifications of this class are that we are made in the image of God, we can reason, we have rational thought, and we have souls.

wait the religion i'm talking about IS christianity but why does that mean that animals have no souls and i have to accept that?

well if the religion you refer to is christianity then animals do not have souls. That is very hard for me to accept tho b/c i love cute fuzzy creatures ...anyway.........
