I think that on the whole, girls who are both intelligent and assertive don't get boyfriends so easily. I don't think this is to do with 'geekiness' because you can be intelligent without being geeky. I think it's because a lot of boys find it intimidating. Do you agree with me and if so, why do you think it is? Does intelligence make a girl seem distant and unreachable? And if she's assertive with it, do boys find that too much to handle? I think many boys prefer girls to be submissive because then they can play the protector and feel in charge, and if she's less intelligent than them they feel like they can easily impress her. Intelligence and assertiveness they don't like because it's a bit of a challenge. On the other hand, I think many girls find intelligent and assertive boys attractive. Why don't they feel so threatened by these qualities? Being an intelligent and (I'd hope) assertive girl myself, I don't regret that these things probably put the majority of boys off, because it means that a guy who DOES like me will really be worth it. But I'm interested to see if you agree with my theory or if you think I'm way off the mark. What qualities do you think are the ones members of the opposite sex go for (both boys and girls), or the ones that put them off? I'm aware I'm making sweeping generalisations here and I do know that not all boys are put off by the slightest hint of a girl challenging them intellectually. So don't feel offended you guys! Bex

Well, all i've got to say is Hermione Granger is the ideal intelligent girl because she doesn't hide it. i just think, like it was mentioned before, there are different smarts... for instance i am in the hardest classes availible at my school (why did i do it? i don't know, it was a mistake because i enjoy a life of leisure..) but half the people in there cannot philosophically express themselves or the way they justify their morals and reasoning is just premature. well i just want someone like severus snape, he's a babe, cold, intelligent, unafraid of intelligence in females well ya know. i don't know, i've never had trouble finding anyone. all i've got to say is that to be intelligent you don't have to shove it in someones face when you first meet them, if they're your type you shouldn't have to tell them that your clever, they'll be able to see that already.

It's actually true, except maybe for the wealth and status part. Naturally, that's what both sexes prefer. Good looks + good physique + youth = Good health, Good genes, Healthy children.

No, I would say Intelligence and Assertiveness only worry the dreggs. The good men won't have any issue with these things. I personally would prefer a woman who doesn't bore me to tears and act really introverted. Its not attractive at all. quote: What qualities do you think are the ones members of the opposite sex go for (both boys and girls), or the ones that put them off?
