I am okay with underage drinking when done responsibly. However, underage or not, I will not drink because of my family history. There is tons of alcoholism in my family and I don't want to "catch the disease" so to speak. Not to mention that I want to go completely organic eventually and, while I'm sure I could find an organic beer, typical alcohol would not be. So it's just an added benefit in more ways than one that I don't drink.

You're what? Fourteen? Enjoy your healthy liver while you still can.

okay fine amsterdam is a bad example (though normal and relative are relative terms) but for the majority of europe you don't see aloholism like you do here and they for the most part have no drinking age and their booze is stronger

then explain to me why europe isn't seriously fucked up. Shit why aren't germany and ireland nations of alcoholics? or france? or nations where every drug, drink and fetish you might have or want is legal? (amsterdam we're staring at you) why are they so normal and civilized? and let's see some confirmed medical evidence on that last claim of yours.

I think they would have, especially if there are other alcoholics in their family. There's more and more proof coming to light that alcoholism is at least partly genetic.

seems odd, because I've had a sip of my dad's beer, a glass of champagne and have a small liqour locker of my own stashed away and I'm perfectly fine. I have a drink now and then but I have no compulsion to drink because it's no big deal. Meanwhile my peers, many of whom have never had a drink in their lives are like "dude! let's go get wasteeed!" so in my experience exposure made me less likely to want to go party and get smashed
Of course. I'm not saying it's that way for everyone, but in general...if you let a kid drink, they are going to drink, and if they are young enough, their brains aren't developed enough to understand the concept of drinking responsibly, not mention that under developed brains are more at risk to becoming physically addicted to a substance.
