Face it, bipolar is a growing mental disorder. You probably know atleast 2 people who have this disorder, whether you realize it or not.
The bipolar disorder is not something to be taken lightly. If you feel that you know someone with this disorder get them help immediatly. Your saving them and yourself from further hurt.
Not saying that their won't be hurt in the future. A bipolar person is like a roller-coaster ride. It brings out many different emotions from the start to the finish. You never can tell what emotion you'll feel next.
BE READY. Most times you never know that this person is feeling suicidal until he/she attempts it. ALWAYS have emergency contact numbers ready. (these are his/her psychiatrist and dr. who prescribes the medicine that is controlling them). LET THEM KNOW : Let the babysitter know that your son/daughter has bipolar. Make them aware of his/her tendencies and bipolar in general.
A bipolar person is excessive in everything. They eat to much, spend to much, worry to much, sleep to much. Anything you can think of they do it to much.
You might need to handle this persons finances, or keep a close eye on what they spend.
THEY WILL EXAGGERATE. They can't help it, sometimes they don't even know that their doing it.
THEY HEAR WHAT THEY WANT TO HEAR. They can't help this either, sometimes it's just a method they use to block out things that will cause them to go overboard.
JUST LIKE A PERSON, EVERY BIPOLAR CASE IS DIFFERENT. Women who have bipolar tend to have a lesser case then men.
SO WHEN DOES THIS USUALLY START? If your son/daughter is going to have bipolar it usually starts during puberty. Sometimes it will start before that. If their is cases of bipolar in your family, watch out during puberty.
IS THERE ANY CASES OF THIS HAPPENING IN YOUR LATE 20's? Well, yes, but not really. Their might be a case similar to bipolar that occurs in your late 20's.

My mom is bipolar and it is horrible!! I try to be understanding and patient but, it sometimes just DOES NOT WORK-she usually just ends up attacking me(Verbally, NOT physically)!! I usually stay out of her way as much as I can and I love being out of the house. She also ended up throwing my (step) dad out of the house. Any ideas to keep me from smacking her upside the head?!

Three people in my family have it(I think i've said this before though.) It's your choice not to have kids but I wouldn't let a 50/50 chance stand in my way.

Once you find out your bipolar, it's like a part of your life. You can't get taken off the medicine for the risk that you might go 'off the deep end'. By deep end, i'm sure you know I mean depressed, suicidal and general mood swings. I like to joke 'round and say that it's like p.m.s. . I would like to tell everyone out there with relatives who were just diagnosed with bipolar, to go out and buy a book, research more about it online, or try to get in touch with people who have it. The first couple of months will be hell for both you and that person.

I had to make a project on Bipolor Disorder. It was interesting, because it was then I learned that both my father and uncle were living with it. Yeah, go figure.
I went to a lot of message boards, many like youthNOISE, and I kind of interacted with people living with the disorder, and asked about their feelings towards it all. Many of them fought that it wasn't even a real disorder, but instead a quality that made you unique. I never quite understood where they were coming from, though.

Yep, my cousin is bipolar, he was diagnosed with it when he was around 10-11. It's sad, he remembers when he was 'normal' and it makes him more upset. It's heart wrenching. -Sunset

I don't know anyone who is bipolar, but I do have a friend who takes depression pills (cause she was put into rehab and then diagnosed with true depression) and she gets REALLY moody sometimes. Like she'll say something cruel one minute and then apologize some time after. It's like she can't control her emotions sometimes.
