Nearly any restriction on freedom can be justified because something is bad for you or affects others.

And people who do not smoke should have to freedom to not have to smell cigarettes and not have their health affected by it.

Saying smoking should be banned isnt being 'nanniest'. Its a personal opinion. Smoking kills people.

Yes, I totally agree.

I should be able to go 150 mph with my new Corvette if I want to, I should be able to target practice with my 20-gauge in a public park if I want to, and I should be allowed to take a 32kt diamond necklace for my girlfriend's birthday if I want to too.

Let freedom ring, people!

Nanniest may be the correct spelling. It is not a word that you will find in a dictionary but I would lump you in with people who support seatbelt laws and helmet laws. We don't need a nanny, we need freedom.

I read in Smithsonian a few years ago about a town in South Carolina around 1920 where tobacco was their economic staple. The city council passed a law that it was illegal for a private business (other than the church) to ban smoking inside their establishment.

This was wrong. If a private business wants to ban smoking they have the right to. To tell an establishment that they can't ban smoking is a violation of their rights. Why? you can't tell them what they can or cannot allow in their private business so long as they action is not illegal in it self. This is no different than passing laws to ban smoking.

I think smoking should be banned all together. But, it will never happen. And I doubt even if they ban smoking in public, people will still do it. And I think it wont last due to so much controversy. Smoking has been around for years, I doubt anything will happen. Its too late.

Yes, a ban on tabacco would be great but only if it included factories, cars, fast food, established a Federal Nutrition Regiment, planes, boats, baths, and a lot of other things. These are all harmful to the person using it and are all as harmful, if not more, to the general public as tobacco. This would of course be ridiculous.

I doubut that the public place that you are at would be anywhere near a park. And if it was I think that it would be a slim chance that you would get hit with a frisbee.

Should I just stay home? maybe I can go to a private area where frisbe playing is not premitted.

YES!! I so totally agree with this. I am glad my dad stopped smoking already and the result was: he seems healthier than when he was still smoking... My dad was thinner then and he easily gets sick, but now, he has gained weight, but not overweight and he doesnt get seriously sick anymore..... To me, that is really an improvement. And yes, banning smoking should be done because those people who dont smoke, yet they have inhaled smoke from people around them are the ones who are affected most.
