That figure about lung cancer deaths is based on studies that were biased and poorly interpreted. Second hand smoke is not some scourge on our country.

Tobacco use is not "evil" or "terrible". I've seen so much ridiculous propaganda it makes me sick. Let people do what they want to do with themselves. If you don't like the smell, then leave. I don't like the music the guy next to me is playing in his car, do I have the right to legislate it out of existance? It's not the governments job to make sure you're lives are comfortable and without annoyance.

No it's not you dumb****! BBQing and smoking are 2 completely differnt things GET ****ING REAL!
Just because fumes from a ****ing BBQ are "worse" than smoking means nothing! it doesnt even compare on the same level!

Well people complain about 2nd hand smoke, yet BBQ smoke is like inhaling a pack of cigarettes, and you wouldnt even know it. Even when you eat the food off the bqq depending if it was cooked with gas or coals.

As an on again off again smoker I must say that I did live in California and the non indoor smoking thing rocked. However the only reason I feel it worked there was because the weather is basically 65-75 year round and it isn't hard to walk outside and have a smoke, most bars feature a patio or deck as do homes. Also the property value in california is ridiculously overinflated so even smokers generally do not smoke in their homes b/c it brings down the value if the home smells like cigarettes.

Just a week ago here in Nebraska the capital city of lincoln (population approx 200-300 thousand) banned smoking in public buildings due to voter demand. Right now lincoln has 8 inches of snow on the ground and most bars do not feature a smoking patio. Property value is about average with the rest of the country. If you want to go outside to smoke be prepared to freeze your patoose off. As a bartender whom deals with second hand smoke and a smoker myself I still like this idea, as it would help me not to smoke as much and keep people from smoking in front of me.

Why is banning smoking a bad thing? It's great! 1- You are helping out second hand smokers who don't want to breathe the toxic fumes and 2- you are helping the smoker by limiting how much they smoke and saving them from health problems in the future.
In California they have banned it from all public indoor locations (bars, restaurants, museums, etc) and also many amusement parks and the beaches! I'd prefer not to have to smell it walking along a sidewalk as well, but in due time.
We can always just add more taxes to tobacco (sin tax) and force people to stop smoking in that way. That works too since smokers increase everyone's taxes by using more health care services and often with the state's checkbook.

Banning smoking in public places is ridiculous. They have already gone too far in banning smoking in bars and restaurants(in california). Second has smoke is a joke.
