Congratulations on your weight loss foxy SmileI think your mom should be supportive, you should tell her how it makes you feel when she says things like that. It is a good thing that you are proud of your body, never let anyone take that away from you.

It's worse though when your own mother is against you. I recently lost some weight, not much but some, and I couldn't be more in love with myself (no not in the bad way to where I believe I'm perfect, but to where I'm happy with myself and my body image). Now I'm wearing a little bit tighter of clothes (not skintight) and my mom looks at me and says "Not yet, lose a little more"...wthell! Don't you think she should be supporting her daughter in her happiness of her own body instead of trying to pull her down? I don't care I'm proud and that's all that matters to me.

much luv

Ya i saw that article. There are clothes that will make anyone look flattering or sexy. You just have to learn how to shop right. And I'm telling you guys love girls with curves! They don't like the skinny anorexic looking one's because the look unhealthy. And who want's a b/f or g/f that looks unhealthy?

I am as comfortable with myself as I can get. And I'm defiantly not skinny. But I'm not fat. I'm average. And heres my message for all you people who aren't comfortable about your body, "Remember no one is perfect, not even the girl's who look perfect. And it's better to look natural then to look fake. So don't ditts yourself, because you are just as beautiful no matter what. And If a guy likes you , he will like you for who you are. not what size you are!" Ok well thats it.

I know it is hard seeing people of your age in magazines and thinking "Why can't I look like them?" Well, anytime I ever think that, I remind myself that those people are a very short and few amount of the people in our society, and most people do not look like them. Plus, I do have alot of friends that always look just "Perfect" (unlike me, Big Grin-I'm perfect for myself!) BUT, their personality is BORING! Their faces show that they are grumps and don't enjoy anything because they are to into "Being Cool" <Whats the point? We are only going to be this age once! We might as well enjoy what we can! And, So I say, EVERYONE wants what they don't have. And, there still are insecurities that I have with myself, my hair is about ear-length because in march I got it chopped off to where I could spike it, and I liked it for about 2 months and decided to grow it out, and I'm not exactly "Skinny" But I'm not exactly "Fat" either, so some sizes fit me wierdly (especially pants). But, people always remember me by my personality, I'm wayyyy outgoing, and funky in a way. I'm not into the whole "Punk look" thing, but I do dress the way I want to. So, I just think that we need to take care of our bodys, but we should learn not to compare ourselves to others, because we are all different sizes, and we look different. So, YOU ARE WONDERFUL, JUST THE WAY YOU ARE! But, If you think you should start changing your eating habits or something, then do, for your health. Wink

In one of my magazines, there was an article about different body types and what you can wear to be more flattering towards your body. There were types like "athletic" "petite" "tall" "curvey" and a girl wrote in that all of the girls in the pictures, even in the ones featuring larger body types, were still skinny. Magazines have to sell themselves. I didn't see any girls that had my length legs or my shoulders and there weren't any models as flat as me, but a writer cant cater to every single person.

was that GL?????

I am comfortable with my body, and will wear bikini tops. The only bottom I will wear is boycut shorts, no tiny bottoms for me. So I guess that means I like my top half more than my butt. But that is okay, I dress how I feel comfortable, and people can like how I look or not and I don't care.

True, but i think what it was, is the fact that she wasn't comfotable with it, because she feels left out. She probably dosen't think she's good enogh to do what others are comfotable doing so she scorned them in a failed attempt to get them to stop being happy about the fact that they look goo. In other words, jealously is a strong feeling.

Also, the other page of bikini's were probably adds! It could possibly not be the magazine's fault at all besides just arranging the set up in a poor manner.

I've always been told that I was skinny and had the perfect body. i'm 5'9 and 110 lbs. I think that people who are insecure about there bodies shouldn't be condemned for not liking there bodies. alot of my friends who are bigger than me sometimes dont want to go to the pool because they hate being seen in a swimsuit, and I respect that! I think everyone else should as well. It's there body, and what they think of it is THEIR personal oppinion!

There are a lot of people who aren't as confident as you fuzzybear. I love my body, but swimming suits really make me uncomfortable. Frown

i completely realize what youre saying but the models were short, tall, chunky, petite, and were wearing all kinds of bikinis and one peices flattered their shape. i'm trying to say that bathing suits, magazines and skinny people arent the root of all evil.

Good for you. You claim to have the ability to not care what people think of you. There are so many other girls that do care. And don't just say, "Well, they shouldn't." Most of the time if they're lacking that confidence, it's because of how they were brought up, and the way people have treated them.

Reading about how to gain confidence, and actually having it are two completley seperate things. Girls who lack confidence, and read that, only to turn the page and be faced with beautiful girls, feel that they'll never look like that, and because they'll never look like that, no one will love them.

It's society's ongoing message - If you're not thin, you're not beautiful, and you're not worthy of love.

I know that I don't like when magazines do that at all. I weigh the same as a lot of girls I know, but since I'm shorter,5'2,and have a lot of leg muscle, I look bigger. So when I skim through magazines and all I see are these skinny models (and no they aren't super skinny, but they are all skinny enough to wear bikinis and show off a lot of skin), it doesn't make me feel good about myself. I rather see plus size models (like sizes 12, 14, and 16) in bathing suits, then these models who are small sizes like 2, 4, or 6.

Well, look at it this way:

You're overweight by, let's say, 20 pounds. You read this article in a magazine about building confidence. You think, "Great!" You turn the page, only to see bikini ads, and knowing that you don't feel comfortable wearing a bikini because you think people will make fun of you, you flip to the excercise page, do a hundred crunches, or you go to the freezer, and pull out a gallon of ice cream and devor it, because you're an emotional eater, and you feel you could never look like those girls, so why bother trying?
