Ok, I'm sure a lot of you have had a bf/gf who's been asking for sex a lot. Well, who can blame them? All the media says today is, "If you have sex, you're cool, you have worth, you are accepted socially, and you basically fit in society. Everyone says Britney is worth nothing without sex appeal. Prudes are losers. To be famous, you have to be a ****. The fact that one is smart or has a great personality means nothing, the only thing that matters is sex. Women: pretend to be lesbians, were thongs that show in your jeans, and you better obey your man! Men: stop thinking about loving a woman, just sleep with her, let everyone know that you're 'the man'. And you better be good at faking it!" So what are they to do? What are we to do? We try to fit in. They try to fit in. It's a human instinct to try and be accepted. I mean, I dont know any 15 year old virgins. Funny thing is, the girls who sleep with guys sometimes like it and are ok about it, and other girls who have had sex are like, "Why did I do that? How could I be so stupid?" I mean, take a look at a lot of famous shows, and artists, and movies, etc. I'm not saying let's turn the media into something made by the Care Bears, but at least it should say that you're human worth is about who you are too.

POWER TO YOU! the media shouldnt be telling us what to get out of life. having premarital sex is a choice that should be left up to the individual, without the pressure of the media. isnt it enough that kids get peer presuure at school? sometimes even their own families. but its not just the social things that the media advocates about sex, its the way you feel about it. your SUPPOSED to be ok with it, and hes SUPPOSED to love you because you do it. unfortunately life just doesnt work like it does in the movies.

i know that im like years off from when this discussion took place. i dont think that the media "forces" people to choose to have sex or not, but i do find it disgusting when i turn on the television to watch a show or even a five minute commercial comes on and all i see is sexual based scenes or half or fully naked people, i think the media industry needs to leave somethings for our imagination! another i am a virgin, and i have "thought" and heard about my friends sexual relationships, i have chosen to save my self for the guy that i feel is the right one to share that special moment together. i dont think that having sex because it feels good, or just because people pressure you is a good reason, it should be meaningful and with some one you care about, that's truley what makes it FEEL GOOD!!!

The media is exploiting the basic human urge to have sex, and arguably corrupting most of the youth in America. People in the media are worthless, they truly are. They do little more than act or sing, and contribute nothing to the politics and advancement of our nation or the world in general, save for a few dollars here and there to starving children in Africa simply to keep their philanthropist image. They are all morons, and the ones with some intelligence rarely use it. They speak out about government and society, and have literally no understanding of the topics at hand, and their millions of roaring fans take their word as if they were a god or goddess. This demonstrates our own stupidity as well in many ways. In terms of sex, the media uses it as a tool to appeal to their fans. Everyone has some carnal instinct to enjoy sex or think about it, so why not exploit it in young, impressionable youths so that we can make a few more millions of dollars? All they care about is their own fame and fortune, and they will stop at nothing to see that they do not lose their status in society. Also, not all 15 yr olds have sex. They act like they do, and you're right (because it's looked upon as cool), but very few actually do. They just try to fit in by acting like brainless whores with no respect for themselves or the opposite sex whatsoever (that goes for girls and boys).

I completely disagree.. the media can show us the wrong way of doing things.. but the media can not force anything onto us.. if someone wants sex then thats their choice.. how can the media control us.. Sex is not something anyone other than yourself can control..
I love you moer than life. And i mean that.

CelticNewAger, I really dont agree. The media may be the one who pushes things and gives off the image, but it's your decision wether you want to have sex or push sex or not. My friends and I have all had serious discussions about sex, and none of it's infulenced by the media. If anything, we're so turned off from the idea because it seems like 'everybody's doing it' and thats not how we all want our first times to be. Yea sex appeal does put the idea into many people's heads, but that doesn't mean that everyone is going to try to 'fit in' by having sex. Not everyone is like that. Oh, and you say you dont know any 15 year old virgins? I'm one.

I aint afraid to hurt your feelings. You have like a two second rebound rate and then your off doing the next pain in the a*s thing.

Finally someone who understands...good job on that. ~S~

Your right CelticNewAger, a little bit. It is the media who tells us your not cool until you have sex. But, it is still that individual person choice to give in or not. I'm 17 years old, and I"m proud that I still haven't had sex. And just because you decide to have sex once doesn't mean that you have to become a ****. Don't give in. Do what you want to do and do what you feel is right. Just because somebody said it, doesn't mean you have to do it. Your right, ppl do need to feel accepted, but they can find ppl who will accept them for who they are and not just because they choose not to have sex. So, yea.

I've never had sex shoved in my face. One the one hand, it makes me feel good that I won't have to worry about babies and such, but on the other hand, it makes me feel incredibly unloved. Am I not hot enough for you, girls?! I think my self-esteem just took another hit...

If you think about it...the whole TLW (true love waits) thing is just another form of media being shoved in our faces...what makes them any better than the ppl shoving sex in our faces? They're just taking a different viewpoint...

Wow so this is prolly some of the worst bullsh*t I've heard in awhile. If you're shallow enough to fall into the media, it will control you. So will the ppl around you. Get over it, it's called life. No one forces you to watch those shows, listen to that music, watch porn, ect. From what I understand there are several Christian type things out there to take place of this and yes I am Christian. However I lost my virginity at 13 and no I don't really regret it. I suppose at times I wish I would have waited for the guy I'm with now but hey sh*t happens, you live, you learn, you grow, you mature. And yes guys want sex whether they see it all over or not. It's not like no one knows how to have it. It's pretty simple. Sex does sell. I've been a dancer for 15 year..trust me I know this. Yes I do wear the "revealing" clothes. Most of the time short skirts or really low jeans (we're talkin below the hips) and a halter or bikini top. However I'm 17 and I can make these decisions for myself. You are who you make yourself out to be. Not who the media tells you to be or what you wear. Stop blaming others for your decisions...the media isn't doing it...it's simply providing entertainment. If you don't wanna watch it go read your bible. ~Serena~

Well hi I'm 15 and a virgin so you just met another one. and yes I agree with bmmsgurl because if you think about it if we wait till were married then there wouldn't be that much AIDS anymore because everyone won't be sleeping around with each other. The media has the whole effect on sex to me because since we were little we would wacth the movies are momma and daddy's wacth and they wacth a whole lot of sex on t.v and plus you see all the people on mtv and bet and everywhere eles showing all there body parts not saying theres anything wrong with it but they just show off sex everywhere we go. So yeah the media show sex everywhere but we just gonna have to get passed it because on t.v they ain't living are life so there not the one getting pregnant when the have sex on t.v cause it's fake.

okay....media does effect what people do, but to a certain point. Everything affects us, it is natural, but make your own decisions and not dig too deep into whose fault everything is.

Wow I finally disagree with you somewhat...
Yes, the media promotes sex a lot. It always has. Sex sells.
Yes, revealing clothing does not help the situation. My theory: If you don't dress like a ho, guys or your boyfriend won't treat you like a ho.
But the media isn't to blame. As humans, we have our own minds and our own free will. If a guy watches television and then pressures his gf into having sex because of what he saw, then he's not mature enough to be having sex. He's not even mature enough to be watching TV! If you can't think for yourself, don't watch TV. That's the bottom line.
If a girl isn't strong enough to stand up for what she feels about sex, she's not even mature enough to be in a relationship that has gotten that serious. If the couple can't talk about such serious subjects as sex then they're not ready to have sex together. It has nothing to do with the media.
I'm 15 and a virgin. I've only had one boyfriend (we're no longer together) and we talked about sex. Both of us wanted to wait until marriage to have sex. And I think I was in one of the few relationships where I (the girl) wanted to do more physical activity than the guy. In other words, I wanted to make out more than three times over a six month period. Plus, he waited FOUR MONTHS to kiss me. Maybe some relationships are based around sex, but not all of them. We weren't even mature enough to be making out; we definitely weren't mature enough to have sex. But at least we were mature enough to talk about it.
Think before you act people. That's all it boils down to.

Well, the media does encourage sex... Yes wearing revealing clothes and other stuff really say like "sex is cool go do it" And yes... being "cool" is overrated, but not that you have to do something potentially dangerous to conform to that fit. So the media ENCOURAGES it but it is ALWAYS the couple's decision to follow through or just say fu** the media and do what they want.
