I am from the United States and I would really like to know what other people, from all countries, think about us Americans. I think that there are quite a few bias opinions out there and I have begun to wonder what people think.

i just told u of my impressions and i never said the whole of america is like that...its really good that u don't take everything for granted..i said that in reply to what bloodylogos said...
giving your opinion doesn't necessarily mean your stereotyping and everyone doesn't say typo things unless they really observe them.....

Ugh, here comes that stereotype again. Let me tell you, it's come as quite tiresome to me. It's a stereotype many people are fond of, yet no one looks into.

Americans have difficulties just as any other nation does. There's still disease, drugs, abuse, etc. on the soil of the United States.

i personally feel that american kids have no value for many thngs as they things come very easy for them..they are also very high headed...
but otherwise everything else was pretty okay..they just don't relaize the imporatnce of what they are getting....

It depends on your definition of "easy," really. American colleges, for one, are supposedly freakishly difficult to go through compared to many other countries [education below college-level is usually not as stellar, though]. Compared to a number of other countries, America also has a much more cutt-throat society [that's capitalism for ya']. And so on, and so on. If an American seems to have.. a lot going for him, maybe he worked for it, and earned it. True, I believe many teenagers and children don't realize how lucky they are to have what they have [especially in my area, good grief. You'll never see a high school with this many BMW's and Benzes in the student parking lot. Can't say I'm too jealous, though], but there is a significant number of young people who do understand, or grow to understand [it is also said that American children generally mature slower, but I guess that depends on your upbringing]; at the same time, you can say that every nation has its share of ingrateful youths. Bottom line is, these stereotypes are quite meaningless. There are shades of grey that will always defy the accepted image.

And if anyone brings up the propaganda issue, you can bite my ***. Every country uses propaganda. Hell, look at North Korea. They're using Anne Frank to teach their teens that Americans are evil. As long as Americans exist, there will always be war, and they must sacrifice themselves to their country to fight the American-evil because their leader is a saint, and the loving father of their great nation. This was aired just this year by.. 60 Minutes, I believe. I could be wrong, but I watched it. The report was originally done by a Dutch news program [obviously. N.Korea wouldn't let Americans in, heh].

In America, we are at least given some freedoms that other countries do not have. Granted, we're flawed. Flawed like hell. But it's still good. And besides, it isn't a terrible sin to enjoy what you have. I'm sorry I don't thank God or Buddha every day because I can eat three meals if I choose to, or because I have a computer, and clothes on my back. I just keep going.

I'm not ashamed to be from America, but I am ashamed for how our leaders are acting.

This came from something on CNN I found interesting.

Reporter: Sir-
Bush: What is my name?!
Reporter: Err, MR. PRESIDENT...

Wow. Talk about a high ego.

I am from America, but there are a lot of times I wish that I wasn't. Because when Bush put us in Iraq and said it was "for iraqi freedom" he was just trying to make himself look good. I as well hate Bush. I want him out of office more than anything. He screwed us over more than needed. As for the American people. I believe that they're just blind-sighted (spelling?) by the glitz and glam. They strive for things that may be unattainable and then in the end acting like total ignorant idiots. I was in a debate class and the most argued topic was government. I didn't let my case about Bush down because I strongly believe that he only wanted to be in office because of his dad. If his dad wasn't rich or in office before I doubt he could've made it into office. He tries to be better than his daddy I think. That's why he's screwed us over. The people are just shut out as to what's really going on in our government unless they decide they want to know what's going on and become active in the government knowledge. I just think America is very confusing. I also think that schools in America should require more government classes to inform highschool student whats going on, and motivate them to become activly knowledgable about our government and it's excuse me but screw ups. Sorry if I ranted but eh it happens.

Wow...people don't know how to use the English language very well, I see. I , personally, do not like Americans. Most of them are very ignorant and well...obnocious. In my mind...it seems like their gov't is trying to take over the world. Yeah...critizise me for my opinion, go ahead. There were NO factual reasons for the war against Iraq in the first place. It's not my fault that Bush is an idiot and should be shot.Actually...if I had a chance..I think I would..Big Grin Sorry..I really hate him. I mean...****...he 'almost died' choking on a pretzel...and you let him run a country...wow.. Eek You think that America is the best country in the world...when..well..it's not. Sorry to burst your bubble..but no. Yes, I am a Very proud Canadian. Yes, I do know that there are a lot of stereotypes for Canadians as well. As I say... We're bigger and we're on top...If this were prison..you'd be our ***** Big Grin

"Outspoken!

I personally don't like america. I wish I was never born here. As a matter of fact, I'm currently trying to figure out how Imma move to Canada. In terms of standard of living, america is great. But americans are arrogant. They think that they are soo much better than everyone else. americans are intolerant toward other nationalities and toward anyone who has an alternate opinion that differs from the mainstream. They think that america is the only country in the world that values freedom and democracy, when ironically in certain other countries, you actually have more freedom there than here in america. I get angry every time I see the flag, the white house, and the statue of liberty. I can't wait to get the hell outta here. This country sucks!"

Not all Americans are that rude or nasty. Don't judge people collectively, it's not fair to others and it'll distort your view of the world. Also given that there are a lot of countries with less political freedom, less civil rights, lower standards of living, and many more problems why is our country so bad? When you compare it to the rest of the world, not many countries can really compete with us. In fact, really the majority of Americans enjoy a higher standard of living (and convenience) than any other country, regardless of their problems.

Why do you say "I'm from the states, what do people think of US AMERICANS?" America is a continent, not a country so you should find something else to call yourself, cause then that makes Mexicans, Guatemalans, and Canadians Americans too. It's just conceited and cruel to call yourself Americans, you do not make up the continent of America all by yourself although I admit the U.S is a big help financially to many countries. Think about it.

WTF? Um... calm down there. People who live in the US are American. The name is United States of America. Hence the name. People who live in Mexico, Guatemala, and Canada, are not americans. They are NORTH americans, or CENTRAL americans. And there are SOUTH americans too. And even if we called ourselves North Americans, it's not because we think we make up the whole continent and that we're the only ones here. It's that we ARE North Americans.

Also, he said "US AMERICANS", referring to the americans from the US, hence the US before the AMERICANS. You are wrong in so many ways...

Is it wrong for English people (from the UK) to call themselves "Europeans"? If they did, would it be because they think they make up the whole continent. If they did, would it be rude and cruel?

This Place is called "The Americas". Here, we are a country. We are the states within the Americas. Our name is "The United States of [the] America[s]". Just to clear things up for you mr./ms. all full of rage.
