There's been an ongoing battle on wether teenagers should be aloud to have plastic surgery. Some say that you should wait until your oler because your body is not yet fully developed and that there is too many risks. That you are not yet mature enough to deal with the changes and not old enough to decide. Others believe that they can do whatever they want with their bodies and that no one can tell me otherwise. What do you think about plastic surgery on teenagers? I'm not just talking about getting bigger breasts and stuff like that, but what if you don't like your nose or you want to get a liposuction? Would you ever consider plastic surgery for yourself, and if so what would you like to change about your body. Do you know any teenagers who had plastic surgery and it went wrong or didn't like the results? What do you think about the tv show "the swan" that takes women and changes them completely with plastic surgery? Say anything you think about this topic.

I personally would not want to change anything about my self....hmmmmm....come to think of it, my pinky toe is not straight since I always kept hitting my self there accidentally till it just got a little bent to the side...

We are making a documentary for the BBC on psychology and what society considers ‘normal’. I would love to speak to anyone who is concerned that their teenager or child is keen to have surgery when they’re older. Does your child talk about having a procedure? Would they have one now if they could? We have no agenda to prove and this is not a sensationalist programme, and any contact would be treated with respect and discretion. If you would like to share your story we would love to hear from you at contact@libertybell.tv

I am a British journalist looking for teenagers who have had cosmetic procedures like Botox or collagen. Has anyone out there done this who would not mind talking to a British magazine about this?

My email is lucybroad@earthlink.net. Please contact me if you would consider talking to me. Thank you.

i believe plastic surgery on teens is a croc. men want natural women, not augmented women. besides, all plastic surgery looks fake. breasts, nose, lips, everything. it just isin't natural

sex, drugs, rock n' roll, speed, weed, birth control, lifes a biatch and then you die, so f*** the world and lets get high.

bunni, thanks for saying something. Lots of actors and actresses don't look nearly as perfect as they do in their movies. Jessica Simpson and Cameron Diaz have horrible acne, just like real people do.

5 years ago, I broke my arm and had surgery to fix it - I have a fairly large scar on my wrist which makes it look more like I tried to slit my wrist than anything else, and my mom asked me if I wanted to have cosmetic surgery to reduce it's size or appearance.

I still have the scar. I don't care anymore. I just explain to people what happened and they don't care either.

However, I still maintain that if you had a serious accident and got really messed up, then it is more than legitimate to have surgery to fix things for you.

if teens are going to have plastic surgeries.. why, go ahead!!! better yet, why dont you join the modeling agency or write a book on how to remove your bad nose, your weird face or whatever since teens are so into plastic surgery... Really, if this keeps up, why dont you all join the modeling agency.. i mean, models look perfect right? They look so perfect, in fact they look like Barbie..: perfect nose, perfect teeth, perfect boobs, perfect hair...

I'm a model. I'm far from perfect. Apparently, you do not realise that their is such a thing as airbrushing. No model looks as good as she does in an editorial.

Please note that not everyone is saying become superficial and conform to society's standards. I said the exact opposite. A person should be allowed to make decisions about what makes them feel best about themselves, provided they are mature enough to do so.

Plus, what about other situations not regarding breast and nose size? Say someone has a huge scar on their body that prevents them from wearing certain clothes. Does removing it make them superficial? No, not at all. If it makes them feel better about their self-confidence, and they realize what they are doing, why not?

I'm considering plastic surgery myself for something of that nature soon. It's nothing big to anyone else. Nobody else even knows. But I'd feel better about myself if the situation were resolved, thus I might do so. Doesn't mean I should join a 'modeling agency', as you so aptly put, because it's far from society's standards for me to HAVE to receive the surgery. It's something I would be doing for myself.

Now this is where i call..."teens are going nuts!" Oh com'on! Seriously, teens are not supposed to have plastic surgery, not unless you really are required to do so from doctor's orders... but unless your face is perfectly fine, teens shouldnt do this coz i mean, teens are young! I think those who do need and should have plastic surgery are those old people not teens! People are going really crazy these days. Roll Eyes Confused

Plastic surgery on teenagers seems okay with me, as long as that teenager is mature enough to realize what they are doing. I would explain the maturity issue more, but for some reason it's a bit hard to word. I guess in a nutshell you don't want teenagers getting changes that aren't necessary that were a spur-of-the-moment thing.

It's okay as long as the surgery is for yourself, and not to impress someone else or conform with some overexaggerated teenage ideals about what one should look like.

I think that teenagers should be able to have plastic surgery. Concidering i myself has had plastic sugery done over the summer. Im only 16 and i had plastic sugery becuase there was something about my body that i was embarassed about and i know that sounds stupid and your prolly ganna say "well you shouldnt care what other people think" and "well thats the way G-D created you ." but it wasnt that people noticed, i hid what was so embarassing to me really well but i was tired of hiding it, so i talked to my dad about plastic sugery. I talked to my dad becuase he is a doctor. He told me that since it was bothering me so much and that it had an effects on what i could wear and what i couldnt wear , he said that i could get surgery done. My surgon didnt want to do sugery on me because of my age, but he said that i was done developing, so that wasnt an issue , his issue was , what if something happened to me during sugery, but he took those risks.

I had the surgery the summer of '04 and i was out of summer league volleyball but when the season started a month latter i was diving and everything. The surgery went perfectly, it went so perfectly that i had no pain at all which the doctor said was odd but good.

i think that if you want to get plastic surgery then talk to your parents, tell them why you want to get it done. Dont get it done to make yourself look better for SOMEONE else, but do it for you and to better yourself for you like i did.

Wow, whata strong topic. I'm not siding with anybody because i have mixed feelings. I do think that teenagers should have the right to do anything with their body because it belongs to them. I feel that not all teenagers are narrow minded and do what they think is cool or right but i also feel that some teenagers know what they want. people my age are sometimes really self conscience so we want to look good. infact who doesn't want to look good????lol I also disagree because teens may want to change something about their body because somebody said this or commented on that and surgery is not something that changes overnight. another reason is because some teens might abuse the fact that they know someone who has had surgery. teens might make fun of another child or even bully them because of what the teenager had surgery for. i also think that teens should include their parents because their parents or whoever they live with has to live with them everyday...it all depends on the person and their situtation of why their getting surgery. some teens may say y ask the parents?? for example say your mother dresses with persuasive clothes or she hangs around your friends and smokes weed and acts like a teenager, wouldn't u feel embarassed to have her around because of the way she acts?? surgery can have the same effect. i also think before surgery u should really conside these things:
why do i want surgery?
what is surgery going to do for me?
will my surgery effect others?
and most of all will i be happy with the surgery. if u like the surgery and the results and others don't then they don't matter as long as you're happy with u chu got and what chu did you're fine. thats my ideas on surgery

I believe that plastic surgery just for the sake of having it is wrong when you are a teenager. I feel that even if you dont like how you look now you might grow to like yourself and not really care what others think. If that isnt the case then i guess you could have the surgery later in life. I feel that the teenage part of life is like the most beneficial and if they have plastic surgery they could be ruining their life say if there was a mistake.
I have no problem with reconstructive surgery though. I mean if i was in an accident that messed me up really bad i would want to have the surgery. But i wouldnt have it just for the sake of looking better. I am pretty happy with myself and i feel that everything that i dislike about myself can be fixed in other ways like diet and exercise for instance. That is just my thought on the matter.

I was reading some article in YM or something like, "Liposuction killed my daughter" because of something like the fat clots got in the girl's blood, went to her lungs and got stuck. Then the doctors had to pump blood out of her lungs, but they couldn't get enough out so she choked to death on her own blood.

Just a random note.

Reconstructive surgery is considered "plastic surgery". I have a friend who fell and broke his nose in a way that bent it to the side a good deal... He had it moved back so people would stop humiliating him.

I don't really agree with much of the plastic surgery crap that goes on... It just doesn't make sense. But then again, everyone wants to be the prettiest girl or the cutest guy.

What a vain culture we are.

Ikki, shoot me if I ever get that way.... Wink

I agree with Celtic, and also if a girls breasts are too big, she can have back problems later on in life, so I think Breast reductions are fine as well.
