I fully enjoy the use of the occassional cigar. Anyone have a problem with that? My suggestion: Stick to straight cigars or roll your own. No ammonia or menthol in those things.

The TRUTH ads are not targeting smokers, they are geared for the industry. Every tobacco-prevention group out there that I know of, is against the industry and does not intentionally target smokers. Smoking is a serious issue, 11,000 people die each day worldwide from smoking. I also don't get why the FDA isn't regulating this deadly product when the regulate macaroni and cheese. Also, 53,000 people die each year of second hand smoke. I don't know about you, but I chose not to smoke so I don't want to be inhaling someone else's smoke.

I have never understood why teens would want to smoke. For that matter, I have never understood why an adult would want to, either. I mean, there are so many diseases that you can get from smoking. I mean, my great-grandpa was in great health---until he got lung cander. You know why? Cuz he had smoked for over 55 years! I know some people say that they will only somke every once in awhile, but there is this tiny thing called addiction that develops over time. You can get addicted from one cigarette a day. I've also heard people say "Well I'm going to die anyway." No, really??? Smoking takes years off your life, and you must really hate life or something to start smoking. Well, I think that it is now up to the individuals to decide. I mean, the stuff has been out there for years, so let each person decide for him/herself.

My Gramma is in remission from having lung cancer 2 years ago. She still smokes. I guess it doesn't matter to her how much it will hurt us to see her go but we have told her a number of times. Oh well. I bought a pack of cigarettes one time. That was my first and last pack. I gave it away. Wasn't worth my time and money. I would rather have my health than waste money of cancer sticks.
Smoking also killed my granfather. No one else in my family smokes now except my grandma who continues it. I don't see me smoking for the rest of my life.
I think that it is a good idea for restuarants to become non-smoking places but I know that in my town they are worried about $$$ and business. I heard in Madison (capital of Wisconsin) there is no smoking in any public place including bars which is hurting them alot. All they have to do is go out of town I know alot of people that only smoke when they are in the bars drinking. Scary but true.
I don't know I guess if you want to smoke that's you but please don't smoke around me!

i dont know what the government can do at this point about it. smoking kills more than like drugs, fires, and car crashes or something like that i read. 440,000 in america, and people even smoke more in europe so who knows what it is doing there. if it did become illegal though, it would just turn out to be like when the us tried making alcohol illegal. it wont work.

I think it is obvious now, SMOKING KILLS. So, I have no problem with you smoking at your home, or a non-public place, because you have the choice to die early. But, I want to live a long and healthy life, so I choose not to smoke....The problem is that Second Hand smoke is also deadly. And, I'm sure I have ALOT of that. Because I love going to clubs and partying places like that, but I'm not into the drinking or the smoking/drugs. My friend is ALLERGIC to smoke (of any kind) So, whenever me and her go to partys or events where people are smoking, she has to take a pill. And, The pill is to calm down her allergys, not stop them. I just think it is sad that our society KNOWS these things kill, but nobody takes the time to stop, and people do not realize that it IS REALLY REALLY HARD TO STOP, but you can.

The stories of people not caring about the risks they are taking for themselves. What they forget to mention is that not only does smoking hurt themselves, but other people as well.Did you know SECOND-HAND SMOKE causes 50 thousand deaths a year? So really went people light up, they not only hurt themselves, they are hurting other people as well.

There a hundred reasons to tell why smoking is bad for your health. But I will tell you that "BIG Tobacco" a.k.a corporations such as Phillip Morris view today's teenagers as the next set of smokers for them to target. They spend billions of dollars trying to get teens hooked to thier product. There are anti-tobacco movements such as Stand (in Ohio) and Truth that tell you the dangers of it. Plus it's not fair for the non smokers and those with asthma to inhale second hand smoke which would kill after prolong exposure. i know there are people out there trying to quit you'll have support. To see more reasons why smoking is harmful, please visit stand's website at www.standonline.orgThank you and have a nice day.

personally i would rather there be no smokers in the world... for one thing, most of them are inconsiderate to non-smokers even tho EVERY1 knows that non-smokers are also affected badly 2nd hand smoke... and yes, i do realize that smokers don't give s*** about all the health cautions either... and neither do they give a hoot if they get yellow teeth and dull complexions... after all, that's technology's here 4 a reason... some are decent enuf to not smoke in front of children while others couldn't care less.. i'v got frenz who smoke and i'l bug them politely about it every now and then...
i'v heard ppl who smoke say that they can quit whenever they wanted to and that they're in control... but seriously, alcoholics say the same thing and when they really do wanna quit it's totally out of the question... they just can't... my great grandma was a strong woman.. the only prob was she smoked... and in the end, she had lung complications related to smoking and she passed away a slowly painful death...
whenever i get tempted or contemplate to try out smoking myself, i end up not doing it... there are so much more cons than pros and i don't know how anyone can put themselves thru that... when u smoke, u'r not only affecting urself but every1 around u as well... the ppl u pass by in the streets, ur family, frenz... even the environment suffers...
i have nothing against the ban in public places and such 'cos i think it's great for non-smokers... the risk is lessened... altho sometimes i think smoking has rotted the brains of smokers... 'cos they seem to be visibly impaired and unable to read no-smoking signs that are bigger than the size of their heads plastered everywhere... and the stench is HORRIBLE!!! celebs glamourizing smoking isn't helping either...

quote: So you are glad that you are purposefully risking cancer when helpless millions get other types.
You risk cancer every day when you go outside, just another kind. Maybe not "as serious" but it still kills people. Also, smoking is not the only cause of lung cancer. My grandfather who smoked forever died of a lung cancer that's not even directly related to cigarettes. As for the argument that says you are killing yourself slowly: you kill yourself slowly whether you eat too much or not enough, whether you drink too much alcohol or not enough water, whether you exercise excessively or not at all. There are a billion ways to kill yourself slowly, smoking isn't the only one. It's the person's choice if they want to risk disease or death by smoking. Everyone that smokes knows the risks, they just choose to not care. The government isn't going to start to regulate when you eat or drink or run or anything so they don't have the right to regulate when or where you smoke.

Minneapolis has a city-wide BAN on smoking! There is NO smoking in public places or in buildings. That means no smoking, except on your own property.
Any other cities have this?

I'm extremely anti-smoking. For all of you who thing we should just live with it, here's a little story: This past summer, my grandfather, Harry Raff died from a combination of diseases, the most prominent being emphysema from smoking. My grandfather smoked for years before contracting this deadly disease. Emphysema attacks the lungs, making every breath an effort. In the beginning, when I was young, my grandfather seemed like the average elderly man. As the years went by, however, I watched as he got closer and closer to his grave. At first, he started to take more and more medication for other problems that were worsened by his inability to breathe. Soon, he was using a respirator in the morning, along with his medication. The respirator would help him breathe for the rest of the day. As time progressed, my grandfather started use an oxygen tank when he went out. Walking was difficult, as he soon lost his breath. Soon after that, he was using a wheel chair in the house, with an oxygen tank attached. He couldn’t walk from one room to the other without losing his breath. And finally, a fatal problem struck. Surgery was not an option because he would not breathe on his own during the operation. In the end, he died a long and difficult death. If you believe that there are no consequences from smoking, or that they won’t happen to you, you are wrong. Even if you don’t care how the cigarettes would effect you, think about the ones that love you. I lost my grandfather, who would they lose? Think of what you mean to loved ones. Are you a brother? Sister? Friend? Aunt, uncle, future mother or father? Smoking not only effects your body, but everyone who cares about you. Do not put your loved ones through what I went through with my grandfather.

I grew up around smoking. I never have and never will smoke. I think it smells terrible and it looks stupid. This is my opinion. I don't think it should be banned though. Its the person's decision, not the governments.

i think that its a disgusting, and, well, stupid thing to do. There are a ton of adds and info that shows the negitive effects of smoking on TV, the internet, in schools, on cigaret packages, ect. If someone starts to smoke or doesn't try to quit after they've seen all of that stuff, than they are just being stupid and don't care about themselves or the people around them who get second hand smoke. I don't "hate" smokers, because I know a a few people, like my parents and my relitives, who smoke, but i think that what they are doing isn't a good thing. I also think i've heard that smoking is can be bad for th environment.
