oh I need to see that paper...I've been noticing a new authoritarian creed rising amongst the lessor of the beliefs...care to gander who?

Is the basis of it "greatest happiness for the greatest number"? While I agree with that, I go the route of Privationists. The absolute good, is the good of all.

If all the Christians disappeared, I wouldn't have to write my essay on why Christian morality (all religious morality for that matter) is ultimately based on Utilitarianism. As a result, I'd get more sleep this weekend and be happier.

Well, the first ones were better...I'm on the eleventh one, I think. It's sitting on my shelf, but I haven't started it yet. I keep reading them, I don't know why. Carpathia is creepy, predictable or not. I had a freaky dream where I was married to him and kept calling him "Nicky" and trying to teach him how to baste a roast. He got mad and incinerated the roast, then turned my hair into a platinum blonde beehive. (I'm super possessive of my hair). I could never decide if it was funny or scary. Jen.

If you really want to numb your brain, try reading the books (The Left Behind Series, that is.) It's like a Christian soap opera without the dirty stuff. No one can make disaster, romance, intrigue, and the apocalypse as boring as Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye. (I think I got those names right.) Never have you seen so many people martyred, and anyone as evil as Nicolae. Of course, he is the anti-christ, so there you go. Of course, since he has no good points whatsoever, he's completely predictable. And you know who's going to live and who won't. And, to top it all off, the female characters get shoved into the background while the guys play hero. I hate those books. I hate them so much. Death to mainstream Christian fiction. Go read something real. Bah. Jen.

If we are talking outside of a Christian belief system and more of anthropological or worldly stand point, nothing really new would happen. How many times have major theologies died and the supposed catastrophe that is supposed to happen never does? I mean common folks we are going through a major paradigm shift as it is and I can assume with confidence, due to the past, that nothing really catastrophic is going to happen.
Of course from Christian stand point they are going to believe catastrophe is going to happen because they hold the bible to be true, so this is kind of a stupid question because it’s set with certain pretenses.

She's talking about the rapture, when Jesus will come back and take the believers to heaven with Him. The reason you'd have a hard time surviving is that massive amounts of people (all Christians) would disappear instantly and all at once. Drivers of cars, pilots, phone operators, maybe the President, would all vanish. Poof. Not to mention that Bible scholars believe that it's supposed to usher in the Apocalypse. Chaos, anyone? Jen.

Actually, Billy, the idea behind the books is that God is saving the believers from the death, doom, and destruction that is too come. He's not killing them off.

I wouldn't want them to all leave, I don't want anybody killed off for who they are and what they believe.

What would non-Christians believe? The same things they did long before Christianity came along, creation and God. Don't think you some how are the ones who one day invented God, you simply stole the idea from literally hundreds of other religions before you.

Fend for myself...the same way I have been for my entire life...no Christian ever gave me anything nor do I need anything from them. Explain to me what you mean by that?

And why would anyone have a hard time surviving? I don't seem to understand this questioning...I know plenty of people who aren't Christian who survive pretty damn well. I infact survive better then most Christians I know...I have all I want and need...and never once prayed for it.

I'm confused by this "we are the answer to all life" rhetoric. Do you really believe the world would fall apart without you? Then you have very little faith in that what you call God. God doesn't need you, God doesn't need me. This world will follow the same course it aways was meant to follow if ignorant and intolerant authoitarian religions never existed. It infact...would be better. None of us would be fighting about equal rights or what is right and what is wrong, people lived idyllic and benevolent lives in a primitive past before the advent of religion. And the best age of the world, a time of ideal happiness, prosperity, and innocence will dawn again when social institutions such as church are modified.
