Sure, the fetus may become a human as soon as it's born, but the fetus is NOT a part of the mother's body. It is just inside her, that's all. It has its own DNA and is therefore a different being. If it is its own person, than isn't abortion murder?
I just wanna ask all you pro-abortion ppl a question: ever heard of something called adoption? I consider abortion to be the same thing as murder. I know that there are some situations where it seems like the best choice, such as in a rape wherer the victim is young, but those things happen. The baby is a whole different person than the mother, therefore it is murder to kill it.
quote:imagine being sucked out of your warm, comfy home and having your head crushed in the process. Thats what abortion does to the innocent little baby growing inside your belly.
Do you remember how it feels like to be there? I don't think so, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Did you ever have a "baby" growing inside your belly? Have you ever been pregnant without a house/enough money to support the baby? Have you ever been pregnant at 16, 14, 12, 10? (Things have happened. I've heard of an eight year old.) Ever been told that you could die giving birth? Ever found out you had a disease and that you were pregnant, realizing you could give your baby this disease and screw up it's life? Ever been raped and gotten pregnant from that rape? Ever been pregnant and have the father or your baby leave you/die and realize you were going to have to take care of the baby alone? Ever suffered from incest and gotten pregnant from that? Ever been told your baby could be autistic and would require specail care- demanding much emotional stress and millions of dollars a years? Ever reallyfelt exasperated and frustraded, not known which choice to make in your life, and chose what you felt was best for you? Ever been told that one of the hardest choices you've made was wrong? No, seriously have you? Please don't say abortion is "murder" or "wrong"- maybe you feel so, but not everyone does. And the choices you make aren't right for everyone.

Damn, wrote all that. ::grins:: Oh well, there are harsher anti-choicers than you. Hope they see that.

I agree with that. Just a couple of things we need to get clear- 1. Tell that to Pres Bush, who wants to make school only speak about "just say no". Hearing that won't make teenagers any less horn.y, but it will decrease their knowledge of birth control. 2. Not only teenagers have abortions. 3. Condoms don't work 100% of the time.
Amaris, nice post. I agree. "Hannah" isn't totally fiction to me, either- she could just as well be a certain friend of mine. She has a boyfriend, but they're not having sex, and yeah... she's too small to be having a baby.

Here's a hypothetical situation that I'm sure most young girls can relate to. Or at least they can relate to the fear of having this happen to them. Say there's this thirteen year old girl, who's name is Hannah. Hannah is a very petite girl, and she's walking home from somewhere, and she becomes the victim of rape. She gets pregnant, and since abortion is illegal where she lives, she can't have an abortion. Not only is it not her fault that she got pregnant, she has to have this baby, and keep it. First off, Hannah is a petite, thirteen year old girl. Having a child would be putting her life in danger. Her body is not capable of having a child, so she could die, or be seriously injured. And say that she doesn't die in childbirth. She is thirteen. She has to raise this child, most likely living on welfare, and she has to put every single one of her thirteen year old dreams in the backseat, because she has a baby. Responsiblity. A reminder of the first time she lost her virginity, to a stranger who raped her in a dark street corner. By saying that abortion is immoral, wrong, whatever, you make it illegal. So you save a baby's life, but ruin the Hannah's.
What child? It's a fetus. It's a child after it's born.
quote:The bottom line is, there are other options besides abortion.
Like what? and if you say adoption, I'm afraid I'm going to have to scream.
quote:If you have sex before you're ready to accept the consequences, that's your own fault...
And that's why so many 40 year olds have abortions, right?
quote:your child should not have to be killed simply because you're too immature to deal with it. Grow up and stop being so selfish.
I should grow up? You need to see the world isn't so perfect. and selfish? Bringing a baby to a world to suffer just because you don't want to feel guilty?
many people do accept the consequences - but since many people do not equate a fetus to a baby, many people choose to have abortions without feeling that it's murder. to many women, abortion is an option, it's not simply ducking the consequences. yes, there are other options, and many unwanted pregnancies are not aborted.
to just suck it up and take the consequences is not necessarily an intelligent or moral thing to do. that's why we try to save suicide attemptees, wear seat belts, and use life preservers. i wouldn't deny a person with syphilis a shot of penicillin simply for the luxury of condescendingly clucking my tounge at them. i don't derive joy out of saying "i told you so!" to a person stuck in a bad position, even if it's their own poor decision making that landed them there. so the guilt trip about forcing others to take consequences that you determine is not a really strong argument to me.
your logic only works upon others if they believe that your fundamental premise - namely that a fetus is equal to a human being post-parturition in rights and similar in sentient consciousness - is correct. if they don't accept your opinion as correct then they may choose to disagree without being immature or selfish.
[QUOTE] [Those people may not make good parents and the child is in danger. /QUOTE]
Uh huh....so killing the child is better??? Wow, that's some logic.

Gemini, I'm very impressed; I did not know you felt that way about abortion.
Which is why I'm about to say what I'm about to say...
...granted, there are tons and tons and tons of little boys and girls in Iraq.
And yes, it's very good that everyone wish/hope/prays for their safety.
It's just real odd, though, that these anti-war protesters and these anti-Iraq people are all "anti-killing children" yet MANY of these people support abortion rights!
How can you oppose the killing of children thousands of miles away, yet say it's okay to suck the body out of babies here at home?
Of course, not EVERYBODY on YouthNOISE is a pro-baby butcher rights person.
But I'm just saying that it's very ironic...very ironic indeed.

A fetus is fully grown about 8 weeks before he/she is supposed to be conceived. He/she cannot survive outside of the womb, but has all of his/her fingers, toes, other apendages, physical features, etc. How is that not human?
quote: if your hand (bad example, but it will work) is negatively affecting the way you live, you have the choice to do away with it. same with the unborn, may i repeat, unborn, child.
Yes, extremely bad example. You're comparing apples and oranges. Anyway, this unborn child was brought into the world by irresponsible adults. Why should the baby have to pay the consequences of two ignorant morons?
Abortion is wrong, unless the person was raped. Even then, the fetus should be aborted very early; before it starts to really develop.
i am not for abortion i believe every action has a consequence and u just have to deal with it. and if u have sexual relations and end up pregnant u should care for ur child or give it up for adoption. i am a teen mother and i know all about how hard it is,but when i look at my child all my problems disappear because i have a person that loves me for me. i am not goin to sit here and tell others just because i chose to keep my child they have to do the same...that just isnt right. but dont kill a child that innocent, give it up for adoption to some1 who cant have kids...
thank you. i was beginning to get sick of all the anti-abortion boards.
quote: The real question is, when does a fetus become a human? It becomes a life as soon as the sperm meets the egg, but should this cell have the same rights as a living, breathing infant?

First, I would like to say this is the first pro-choice board I have seen. (or at least the original post is)
Next, I'm pro-abortion. If it's made illegal people will still do it anyway, and that greatly increases the danger of back-alley abortions, which can lead to infections, death, etc. Besides, it should be the woman's choice. Sometimes, they do use birth control, but they aren't always 100% effective. Also, you can't ignore the rape issue.
If the parents were being irresponsible, it is true that that's their own fault. However, sometimes the child isn't given up for adoption (I don't know why) and they are more likely to become abused when they get older. If the child is born of alcoholics or drug addicts, that's even worse. Those people may not make good parents and the child is in danger.
The real question is, when does a fetus become a human? It becomes a life as soon as the sperm meets the egg, but should this cell have the same rights as a living, breathing infant?
I personally don't know, but you can share some ideas.
I am pro abortion as well. I have seen so many mothers who are ashamed of doing this, but they feel in order to save this child they must take away its life. This is all I have to say.
quote: If you didn't want a child, why did you have sex? That's kinda the main reason MARRIED persons who are the only ones that are even supposed to be doing it, do it.
Now THAT'S a generalization - a lot of married couples have no desire for children. Saying "married people are allowed to have sex because they're doing it to conceive children" is ridiculous and plain wrong.
I am NOT for abortion without a valid reason and I have mat a few teen mothers. If you didn't want a child, why did you have sex? That's kinda the main reason MARRIED persons who are the only ones that are even supposed to be doing it, do it. If you have permarital sex and become pregnant you should NOT deprive the child the right to life. If you can't affored it, there's always adoption. As for in a case of rape or something. That person should have a choice because THAT was not her fault.
Abortion is depriving life to an infant (might as well smother them to death why don't ya) and I think it is wrong in some cases, but not in all.
I only have one argument for your reply! YOU SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THAT BEFORE YOU DID THE TWO PERSON TANGO!!!!! HOW STUPID CAN ONE PERSON BE? THERE IS A SIMPLE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION AS WELL. IF YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE A BABY THEN DONT HAVE PREMARITAL RELATIONS. PLEASE, STUPID PEOPLE ALREADY BREED ENOUGH!!! GO GET FIXED FIRST THEN ENJOY YOURSELF.
