Well I'm dating this guy who is 20 yrs old. I'm 16. He's not a perv and he's not like any guy I know. I like him alot but I'm afraid of what my mom will say. It's not a really an age difference at all but he keeps wanting me to tell my mom. He's a great guy and I don't want him thinking I'm ashamed of him b/c I'm not (which is what he thinks) 1. how do I tell my mom b/c Idk if she will flip out? 2. How much of an age difference is too much?

im not saying i have anything against you personally but like its against the law in america. you guy friend could go to jail maybe a platonic relationship is what you both really need. just think about how this can affect you in the long run.

I'm going to agree that 4 years is not a big difference; what's important is where you are in life. You are at a curious time in your life, however. You're still in high school, and he's in college. It could make things difficult. But it's up to you. When you're 20, he'll only be 24. Just as long as you know you can trust this guy, which is why it's important to let your mom know. I know from experience, on iffy things like that, you're a hell of a lot better off telling them yourself than letting them find out on their own, which I assure you, they will.

in my openion age doesn't really matter it's where you are in life. Although i think the only age difference that is going a bit to far is like 20 years. But 4 is nothing.

That rule is the silliest thing I've ever heard of. The actual age difference is only 4 years, which isn't much at all. At any rate, it's better to be open with your parents. They'll find out somehow, and it's always preferable to have it happen on your terms.

I have heard about the "half plus 7" rule. And I like it. In this case, half of his age is 10...plus 7=17. He should not be dating you.
