I'm considering it... Anyone actually taken it and want to provide input?

Three days until the day of reckoning. (AKA I'm going to the dermatologist on Wednesday and he will be able to tell me what I should do next.) My skin is gross and peely, but it looks the best it has in a month. This may have something to do with my increased amount of picking at it, which tends to get rid of the acne but leave scabs/scars. I'm going to try my best to keep my fingers off until I see the derm...

It must be too strong. Retin-a in the bin, and milder benz. peroxide.
*shaking head* I love how you make that suggestion as though I haven't tried it before. I used to have a shoebox full of different products that didn't work. Now I have so many that they won't all fit. And Amp, when you know all of the consequences and it still seems like a good idea, you know your skin is problematic.

From what I know accutane is lots of Vitamin A. Thats not a good idea, NOT a good idea. quote: Yeah, the benzoyl peroxide isn't doing much at all for my skin.

Yeah, the benzoyl peroxide isn't doing much at all for my skin. I was peeling like crazy for a few days with my whole 4 prescription procedure, but then it just stopped. (I wanted the peeling...it meant my skin was being renewed.)

Bin, NOW! I just put it in wikipedia: When used, dryness of the affected skin may occur. More sensitive patients may also experience redness, scaling, itching, and burning. Bin! But wikipedia does say Benz. Peroxide is good: Benzoyl peroxide is effective in the treatment of most forms of acne. It is typically placed over the affected areas in gel or cream form, in concentrations of 2.5% increasing through the usually effective 5% to up to 10%. Research suggests that 5 and 10% concentrations are not significantly more effective than 2.5% and 2.5% is usually better tolerated

Bump. I'm now on a regimen of antibiotics once a day, benzoyl peroxide shower wash for my back, benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin gel applied morning and afternoon and retin-a micro at night. After 2 weeks it's not having any effect except to make my skin very angry. I've got 2 weeks until I see my dermatologist again where we will be discussing the next step.

I signed the abstinence pledge. I really hate taking medication so I didn't want to take birth control as well.

Those people piss me off. They make it harder for people like me to not take birth control. I was tempted to just tell him I was a lesbian but i wasn't out to my parents yet.
Haha, stupid me, I didn't even get that you were a lesbian at first, avatar picture and all... wow. obviously theres no problem anymore cause youve already completed the whole treatment... but what did you wind up doing? going on birth control? signing an abstinence pledge?

Hahaha... Thats awesome. I wasn't sexually active when I started but I also didn't really plan on purposefully being celibate or anything, so I just signed up for the birth control. As the doctor said "situations can arise even if you think they won't, so its always better to err on the side of safety". My mom wanted me on birth control anyways for some reason. I told her I would pay her a million dollars if I got pregnant anytime soon.

When I was going to be put on it, I had to tell them (doctor, nurse and medical assistant) all about my lack of sexual history. They didn't believe me. They gave me a pregnancy test without my knowledge/consent (I think my mom knew...I was having blood drawn too, I didn't know what the urine test was actually for...). My test obviously came back negative. I told them I would not take birth control. They made me sign a legal document saying that I was refusing birth control and that I wouldn't have sex until I had been off the drug for whatever length of time... THAT was an interesting office visit...all culminating in my doctor telling my mother what a great girl I am every time he sees her...pretty much every week.

My stepmom was there when he asked. It was having a hard time containing my laughter. It took me a while to convince him that I really didn't need to go on birth control though.
