For those who don't wish to read the compelling story ahead:
Has your boyfriend/girlfriend ever said that something you thought looked cool style-wise was unattractive?
Have you and your boyfriend/girlfriend ever disagreed on a style of clothing or on what you think is "hot"?I don't think this is a usual problem because most people tend to date those with the same style as them.
As mentioned several times before, I like to wear all types of styles and basically wear whatever I want. Even though I like all styles, I tend to lean more towards the punk rock style more than anything else. However, I don't have the usual extra piercings and brightly colored hair because, unfortunately, my parents won't let me pierce anything but my ears or die my hair any funky color (they almost wouldn't let me dye it a dark red, auburn color). My boyfriend is just a jeans and t-shirt type of guy but he would definitely fall more into the "prep" or "jock" style more than anything else. He usually wears a basketball tee, a shirt with his favorite team, a Marine tee, or just a nondescript shirt. Obviously, our main styles don't really mesh but since we're both kinda just different with our clothing and don't really fit into a set category, we work.
Well, the other day, the subject of tattoos came up and I told him I wanted one when I was old enough to get one. Nothing obtrusive or unattractive. I just want one on the back of my right shoulder. I don't even really know what I want yet (I'm going to design it myself, I think). He didn't exactly freak out but he didn't understand
why I could possibly want a tattoo. He said he didn't really think tattoos on girls was attractive. We didn't fight about it, though, and the subject dropped.
Well, this afternoon, I was searching for pictures of people with blue hair to go with a short story I'm writing. And I found that I
really like the way blue hair looks (not to mention, it's my favorite color). I'm planning to get my long hair cut really short at the end of summer and give it to locks of love and I would like to dye it blue. I doubt that my parents would let me but, you know, it's a thought. I might as well do something like this now since I'm still a kid. Even if I have to wait until I'm in college, I
am going to dye my hair some crazy color before I die.
Anyways, my boyfriend calls me from work while I'm still looking for pictures. I make a mention that I would like blue hair. Well, he, again, didn't really freak but thought it was a crazy idea. He was like, "I just don't think that crazy colors of hair are attractive on girls. And no tattoos. And no piercings other than ears." I then mentioned that I also want to get my lip pierced. He just didn't understand why and said he really didn't think it was attractive.
I promised him I wasn't going to show up tomorrow with blue hair, my lip pierced, and a tattoo but that I was probably going to do that stuff at some point in my life. And that was that. We didn't really fight but I can tell he doesn't like the idea.
