ok settle down Christians!! Hear me out! In another post I asked what someone thought about specific drugs and the use of them. And they gave me a decent answer that I took a bit further, now I myself never put these things together until that post. but here is part of my original post: quote: Corinthians 3:16, where we are told that our bodies are the temple of God. However, what most forget, or never knew to begin with, is that in Matthew 15:11 Christ specifically says that it's not what goes into the mouth that defiles the body; rather it's what comes out - such as hate, evil speech, and lies. And in Genesis 1:29, where God states quite clearly that he made "every" plant and "every" seed to be used by mankind. God created marijuana, coca (which contains cocaine), and poppies (which contain opium) for use by humans. To deny this truth is to deny God's absolute truth.
I just want to get a little friendly banter going and see what evidence there is against this. Like I said...this is the first time I added these up, but they've always been there. Let the rhetoric BEGIN!!!!

quote: I've heard that one more then once...opium is also something I've heard was used in incense.
It is a raging issue among Christians weither or not Cannabis is ok or not. For most the easy anwser is no, because it wold be breaking the Laws of the land, which is unchristian. However I wonder if it wasn't either it would be ok or not. Many think it is fine, that it is not really a poison sense you can't OD on it. And also it has many potentials to be a medical tool in the future. Jesus did after all, himself, drink wine. The Oil normally used for anointment was Olive Oil. However there is refferance to "ointments" in the Bible, which very well could have been cannabis. Although Jesus is only anoited Once in the bible (some suggest twice, but most likely was just 1 occasion but 2 spots, the head and the feet) And that was with perfume and tears. Jesus did say to anoint your head before ou fast, and John says he fasted for 40 days and night before his temptation, so this could also, although it doesn't say, be another occasion where jesus may or may not have had Cannabis extract on him. Though in Luke he was in desert for 40 days and he just wasn't able to not, not just really fasing. Also I have seen few studies to suggest how long the oil would have to be on him to have any effect, after anointing you were washed almost immedently. In any case, it is very interesting to learn.

Found it: "Jesus 'healed using cannabis' http://www.guardian.co.uk/international/story/0,3604,869273,00.htmlDuncan Campbell (in Los Angeles) Monday January 6, 2003 The Guardian Jesus w as almost certainly a cannabis user and an early proponent of the medicinal properties of the drug, according to a study of scriptural texts published this month. The study suggests that Jesus and his disciples used the drug to carry out miraculous healings. The anointing oil used by Jesus and his disciples contained an ingredient called kaneh-bosem which has since been identified as cannabis extract, according to an article by Chris Bennett in the drugs magazine, High Times, entitled Was Jesus a Stoner? The incense used by Jesus in ceremonies also contained a cannabis extract, suggests Mr Bennett, who quotes scholars to back his claims. "There can be little doubt about a role for cannabis in Judaic religion," Carl Ruck, professor of classical mythology at Boston University said. Referring to the existence of cannabis in anointing oils used in ceremonies, he added: "Obviously the easy availability and long-established tradition of cannabis in early Judaism _ would inevitably have included it in the [Christian] mixtures." Mr Bennett suggests those anointed with the oils used by Jesus were "literally drenched in this potent mixture _ Although most modern people choose to smoke or eat pot, when its active ingredients are transferred into an oil-based carrier, it can also be absorbed through the skin". Quoting the New Testament, Mr Bennett argues that Jesus anointed his disciples with the oil and encouraged them to do the same with other followers. This could have been responsible for healing eye and skin diseases referred to in the Gospels. "If cannabis was one of the main ingredients of the ancient anointing oil _ and receiving this oil is what made Jesus the Christ and his followers Christians, then persecuting those who use cannabis could be considered anti-Christ," Mr Bennett concludes.

quote: you can feel complete in god and whatever, but still not mind doing things that make you happy.
Right, Like as long as I feel I am doing good, except for maybe the raping I do to make me feel happy, its ok right? [/sarcasm] There are Limitations. If what you does not bring glory to god, then you really have no use for doing it.

Sorry billy, i wasn't here for the original argument.
It hurts our witness because when you are a christian you are supposed to be different than the world, not just like it. if people see you doing drugs and calling yourself a christian than they can make the assumption that they can become a christian and stay in the things of this world. Thats not what christianity is, we are supposed to live so that people see that Jesus fills up every hole, not that Jesus and a couple other things do. ~Shawn

one thing I need to point out thought... quote: The Bible does not exactly say wine is wrong. but says being drunk is.
In Psalm 104: 14-15, King David writes that God gave us wine in order to "gladden the heart of man." In Matthew 11:19, Christ makes the point that his enemies called him a drunkard because he drank wine with the party animals of his day. And, of course, at the beginning of Christ's ministry, his first miracle was the turning of water into wine, and his last act before being crucified was to share bread and wine with his followers, what we call the "last supper." If Christ was God, as the Bible claims, then God drinks alcohol - enough to be called a drunkard by his detractors. Also I don't totally agree with you about the "drug use" but I can accept it...so long as you believe it.

quote: wrong because everything we put in our mouth is bad, thus meaning if we defiled ourselves by putting something in our mouths, God would be lying. For once the Bible does not contradict itself. Thus believe God knew years down the line we would soon understand nearly everything we eat is bad for us...even fruit Kortih...ask my diabetic Grandmother about it. So Jesus could not and God could not say you defile your body by what you put in your mouth..cause no matter what you eat...is bad for you in one way or another. Thus the Bible cannot say drugs are bad...but mearley write a law against Gluttony...but gluttony simply says you can't do to much...it does not say you can't do it.
What the subject was is that it is ok to use drug, becuase it isn't what goes in your mouth that defiles you but what comes out. I said this isn't true because drugs are a poison. It can alter your thinking and make you do things you otherwise wouldn't. The Bible does not exactly say wine is wrong. but says being drunk is. We can determane that if we do something that too much of, or any at all that will cloud are thinking, or be fatital it is wrong, because of the fact. Also, he bible is more of a roadmap, or instrution manuel. Fundamentlist preach it as a "You must or go to hell!" this isn't true, you CAN sin and you WILL sin. But threw Jesus there is forgiveness. A man can be gay, and a christian. A man who is a perfect christian excapt for being gay, is no less evil then a man whi is perfect except for the "occasional" lie. The bible define right from wrong, and tell you way to do right. And so it should be used.

quote: alright I'm trying to take all of this in...I'm tired. There is something wrong here but my bain is too scattered. There are a bunch of yet again contridictions...but it will take me too long to explain...I will though.
Only if you twist the context there is.

Oh yeah Billy, you don't context twist Start from the bottem and work my wy up. quote: And in Genesis 1:29, where God states quite clearly that he made "every" plant and "every" seed to be used by mankind. God created marijuana, coca (which contains cocaine), and poppies (which contain opium) for use by humans. To deny this truth is to deny God's absolute truth.
This is true, however God only talks about consumption when he refers to fruit. However it is easy to discern what is good and what isn't,I.E if someone is allergic to chocalate, then should they eat it because go said we could? No, it would kill them. Same fore Drugs, if they are not good for us, I think that is a good sign God did not intend for us to use it. Could be one day we find another use for these thigs. quote: Corinthians 3:16, where we are told that our bodies are the temple of God. However, what most forget, or never knew to begin with, is that in Matthew 15:11 Christ specifically says that it's not what goes into the mouth that defiles the body; rather it's what comes out - such as hate, evil speech, and lies.
Here is where you start context twisting. Jesus is talking about food, unclean food. The Pharisees told him that his disciples where breaking tridition by not washing there hands, making the food they eat unclean when they touch, it and then making themselves unclean too. Jesus was saying it is not what a man eat that makes him unclean, but his words and actions. Now Jesus wouldn't have told his disciple to drink poison now would he? Of course not. Poison would him them. Drugs kill your body, too much can kill you, alter your thinking, make you insane, and many other things that is not good for you or those around you. Eating something that makes you unclean is different then something that can kill you by shooting it in your arm.
