Question:
Reality TV can be fun to watch, but is it actually real? comedy may well be the most realistic thing on TV. Their certainly more real than dramas like 7th heaven and everwood, but whose to say a little goody-goody family harmony is so bad? and then, of course, there are cartoons, which let us escape to our childhoods, and when we need a little intelectual stimulation, game shows let us test our knowledge of interesting facts and trivia on all subjects. I personally like dramas (7th heaven and gilmore girls), animated satire (simpsons), reality TV that has a point (American Idol. okay, so i got sucked into Mr. personality and american juniors too, but thats it! so far. )and good old rediculous cartoons (spongebob, jimmy neutron). whats your genre? post your ideas and thoughts.

Choices:
drama
reality
comedy
cartoons
game shows

i'm an everwood junkie, and i watch vh1 every so often--i love those lists, like 100 greatest songs about butts, and stuff like that. i watch some syndicated reruns. i like hgtv and food network. i watch cnn every so often, if i feel like it. i like to read more than watch the news. that's about it. i watch comedy central a bit, too. and friends and will and grace. and i watch space ghost with my boyfriend. it's a joke of ours.

I'm watching a lot of ER, 24 and 6 Feet Under right now. I like drama and comedy, and especially a mixture of the two (24 makes me laugh quite a bit actually, although maybe not intentionally… I love the way they're ready to go to war within an hour).

6 Feet Under is my favourite programme… It's beautifully made, the performances are spot-on and the characters are all my personal heroes in different ways… really brilliant!

I also like the usual things - Buffy, Friends, Malcolm in the Middle etc, and some British comedies (Spaced, Teachers).… And I'm a sucker for reality tv. I really hate soaps though. I dunno what American soaps are like, but the British ones are full of moaning whining crying shouting people whose marriages never work. Why, why can't they just be happy once in a while?? I like my tv but I draw the line at watching people yell at each other for a whole hour.

Another thing that annoys me: Does anyone else agree that adverts / commercials are designed just to drive the innocent tv-watcher completely insane? I swear they're actually getting worse. It's enough to make a girl want to club herself to death with the remote.

I really recommend televisionwithoutpity.com, they do really funny reviews of all the major American tv series… I've become addicted to reading the 24 recaps every week!

gemini, you watch HGTV? My mom is addicted to that channel!

I watch it sometimes with her too.....i absolutley LOVE the show "Decorating Cents". Perhaps it is because i am so cheap and i like that they make REALLY Cool stuff for under 500 dollars.

But no, a better show would be to remake the room for under 20 DOLLARS. hehehe

When I do watch television, which is fairly rare, I watch CNN, FoxNews, MSNBC, TLC, Discovery Channel, HGTV, and my local news.. unless I'm babysitting my nephew; then I watch Dora The Explorer and Sesame Street Wink

I dunno, I love drama like Gilmore Girls and Dawson's Creek (7th Heaven is too stupid now and Everwood is pretty good but it moves way too slow) but I am obsessed with American Idol! (Clay is the Best!!!!) I really like The Amazing Race on CBS, too. Also, spongebob is pretty funny sometimes.

I only watch the Food Network, Comedy Central, VHI and HBO. Those are my favorite networks, and what they do for me is 1.) make me realize I will NEVER, EVER be able to cook, 2.) they make me laugh, even when I don't feel like it, 3.) they make me really want to work for a popular magazine so that I can write articles that simply say "WAKE UP AND LISTEN TO GOOD MUSIC, NOT THIS OVER-PLAYED COMMERCIALIZED CRAP", 4.) and they make me want to be a nymphomaniac in New York, join the Mafia, be a drug lord, and a pursue career as a mortician.
