Well good, this way they could work 24 hrs a day all year long. YOur opinion about only three month working a year is a lie. They were slaves and you seem to be OK with that.

The workforce is too important to do that, and you know you are being downright stupid. The workers on thoe pyramids had lavish rock-cut tombs, and finds show that they dined on fish, beef, bread, bear, and wine every day.

The Pyramids were built about 2649BC to about 2400 BC during the Third dynasty. The Hebrews entered the delta in 1781 BC, during the decline of the Twelfth Dynasty. Thus sayeth "Ancient Egypt: Art and Archaeology of the Land of the Pharaohs," by Maurizio Re and Giorgio Agnese.

Its alright FreeMarketLover, northstar didn't say a half million Hebrew slaves was okay, but 20,000 Hebrew slaves are.

Northstar - your anti-semitism makes me sick.

Did he say 500 thousand slaves at the same time? I think not. You are defending enslavers of Jews. I'm just waiting for you to tell us how great Heinrich Himler was.

I guess slavery of the hebrews is OK

The Hebrews were not even wandering nomads when the Pyramids were being built. In the time of Unas, one of the later Pyramid Builders, the Hebrews were still in Turkey. The Hebrews were not "Slaves" they just did not like that, when their bid to overthrow the Egyptian Kingdom from their fortress at Aravis, they were forced to, like everybody else, work for 3 months of the year on various building projects, notably the two pylons at Pi-Ramasses. The pyramids were the mystic past by the time the Hebrews even existed.

It's amazing what you can do with half a million hebrews isn't it.

They used slaves

In the Middle East, slaves were only used for housework and temples. Mass-market and plantation slaves were not used until the Greek period.

I agree with the first two though.

So just to get back to topic, you think that buildings can't be better than others? You thank that all buildings are the same and that if it is falling down, it is just as good as a 110 story high rise.

A bulding is not just bricks and steel and a foundation and a roof, but it is a being. When a building is made with love and care, and people put their heart and soul to make it beautiful and useful, it is better than a building that is ten times the size, but boxlike and cold. THere is a reason there is an enigma surounding places like the Sagrada Familia or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Even though they are imperfect in design and structure, they are just so marvelous for what they are, as monuments to art and architecture, that fails to surround normal skyscrapers. Skyscrapers are too capitalized. Building is now an industry, not an art. We of the nostalgic circle are very sorry we care more for a building that is ancient and imperfect than for a box that is new. But tell me this: would you rather have a Roman villa next door or a 115 story tower?

No I don't think that.

I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying that our buildings will not last forever or even 10thousand years. Do you have a source for how long these buildigns last? If not than your guess is as good as mine.

Yes we were getting off topic, thanks for bringing me back. Yes I think that buildings cannot be better than one another because better is too general of a word. It is an opinion. Can one building be taller, wider, bigger, more advanced technology wise, and even better maintained yes because those things can be measured. Better, greatness and goodness cannot be measured.
