So just to get back to topic, you think that buildings can't be better than others? You thank that all buildings are the same and that if it is falling down, it is just as good as a 110 story high rise.

So you are telling me that it is possible that someone would like my "stick figure nude" better? I don't think so.
Possible? Of course! Likely? Not a cahnce! But an opinion does not depend on public support. The definition of an opinion is: The view of one or more individuals which is not based on direct measurement. . How do you measure greatness? If you can't then it is an opinion which means that like all art you cannot say that one is better than another except for your own opinion.

If I painted a nude picture, but I can only do stick figures and you compared it with Gougan you would have to say that his is better than mine. If you don't you are an idiot. If you do then I have proved you wrong. Which is it?
Yes I wuld however I have different tastes. You learned this in second grade. An opinion is not held by evereybody and everybody would tell you this is an opinion unless in fact they are the idiots. This is simple. Art is in the eye of the beholder.

So you are saying that you would NEVER classify one artist as better than the other. Of course you would. Art can be classified as better or worse than other peices of art. So your need to make all things reletive will not work here. Modern buildings ARE the best structures in the history of the world and it makes me proud to be a Human.
THat's not fair at all. You're twisting words. Yes I would classify some artists as better than others. That doesn't mean that you would. It's a matter of preference. I might like landscpae better than modern and you might like modern better than landscape. It's impossible to say one artist is better than another because of the vast amount of perferences out there.

I agree that the Parthenon is an amaxingly beautiful building and more so than some modern buildings, but modern buildings are better and more advanced.
More advanced, yes! That is a fact. Better is in no way a fact! You've said yourself architecture is a form of art. Art cannot be judged better between one another because what I like you might not like and viceversa.

You're right. I know that there was a lot of time and effort spent by the Egyptians on how to keep their SLAVES HAPPY! That is a stupid thing to say. They used slaves, and you know it. I think that you don't care just because they were Isrealites. I find that dispicable.

I agree that the Parthenon is an amaxingly beautiful building and more so than some modern buildings, but modern buildings are better and more advanced.

So now we should lobby for "building tolerance?" This is completely absurd. It is ok that some buildings are "better" than others. Today our technology is better, our science is better, our materials are better, and thus our buildings are better. Thats OK. I do not know why you all think you must bring down modern America and the Modern world for that matter when it comes to this kind of stuff. It is OK that we have advanced further than the Egyptians. We learned from their knowledge and expanded upon it. No one is saying that they were stupid, they just didn't understand what we do today.
I don't think you're really getting it. That's like saying one piece of art is better than another piece. That's absurd. It's all how you look at it. Facts wise yes modern buildings are more advanced. Arts wise you can't say.

It's amazing what you can do with half a million hebrews isn't it.
First of all I don't no of any source that puts the number at half a million. But let's go your way. Even at half a million it's still not easy to build a good sized pyramid. Think about it. It's even more than just the logistics of it. It's also how to keep them happy while doing this. Supply chains would be a nightmare. Where would these people come from to? Easy to build a pyramid even with half a million people. Not a chance.

So your reasoning is that if it wasn't invented and they don't have it it doesn't take away from the overall "betterness," for lack of a better word, of the building. In 100 years, I imagine that buildings will be better than they are now. It's ok. No one is saying that the Egyptians are "dumb and stupid" they were just less advanced. And they were built using slaves. "Paid craftsmen" did not lug those blocks up there. I guess slavery of the hebrews is OK, but we need to give reparations to blacks. Get some consistency.

They were built by paid craftsmen. Do you seriously think unskilled slaves could create and place such huge stones?

The pyramids did not have electricity.

There are tomb depictions that show static electricity, ran along a copper wire, which gave off a black light, like "Elmo's Fire." It was only a trinket, not something really useful, but it did exist. The Egyptians are smarter than we think.

The pryamids did not have windows.

You have obviously never seen a cross-section of a pyramid.

it's true, just think of how often people are making renovations to buildings today. they are beautiful examples of modern architecture, but wouldn't stand a change without regular upkeep.

i don't see why one kind of building has to be better than another. the pyramids are amazing because the task of construction on that scale without modern machenary was a huge undertaking, and they display some of the earliest examples of complex mathamatical thought and have withstood the test of time. modern skyscrapers are equally awe-inspiring for their sheer magnitude, the architecture they employ, and they fact that they are as functional as they are beautiful. why should one be more important or better than the other?
I entirely agree. I do love seeing modern buildings going up. Amazing eh? I just disagree with some statements that make it sound as if our architecture will last virutally forever.
