For all of those out there who write poetry, songs, music, or express themselves through some kind of art: What is your inspiration? What initially inspired you to get involved in that and are you still inspired by the same things?

quote: Techniques that apply lateral thinking to problems are characterized by the shifting of thinking patterns away from entrenched or predictable thinking to new or unexpected ideas. A new idea that is the result of lateral thinking is not always a helpful one, but when a good idea is discovered in this way it is usually obvious in hindsight, which is a feature lateral thinking shares with a joke.
Stupid ideas bounce off of each other and make new connections, thus leading to slightly less stupid ideas and connections. Rinse and repeat until a non-stupid idea is obtained.
Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation are men who want crops without plowing up the ground, they want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. Frederick Douglass

I am also inspired by tragedy and by everything that goes wrong. I am inspired by hurt, by pain and by everything that emanates from a broken heart.

I find inspiration in inconsequential details and lateral thinking.

Well, personally for me, being critical of things around me is an inspiration, to want to write about what I see is wrong in the world, or atleast something that adresses those issues. Inspiration is a difficult thing to grasp, becasue many times you are not even aware of what inspired you in the first place, its just something that is there that is dying to get out.

Are we looking for understanding? Or maybe it's me, maybe I'm looking for understanding, for someone to say yeah I know what you mean thats exactly how I feel. Maybe thats what inspires me.

I don't know if appreciating something is inspirational. I can think of things that I don't appreciate that I hate or am depressed by that... wait thats it I am depressed by something so I express it. but that still leaves the question of why being depressed makes me or whoever want to express that suffering.

I've heard that alot. That artists should be poor. That people are more artistic when they're down. Why?

Another thing that inspires me is my bottle of laundry detergent that is sitting on my desk next to my computer. It's neon lime green and has a hazard sticker on it. Makes me want jello.

wlkr... you're not crazy. My inspirtaion comes from the spider on my ceiling, its one of those little black spiders (they're cute), and the ceiling is one of those bumpy white ones. Makes me want to fill a swiming pool up with cottage cheese and throw Cap in, just cause.

Trisscar made me smile, anyone else? anyways when I go into writing something...hmm I guess I kinda just do it. I don't know what inspires me when I want to write it just sort flows out like water. I usually start with a feeling that I've had and then try and convey it in my writing so I guess what inspires me is myself. which I think is good becuase sometimes I do stange, excuse me I mean interesting things like once I walked from golden gate park in San Francisco along the water front down to where South city starts. Am I insane? ps. Don't answer that
