quote:
just depends.
Depends on what?

The point of this is that it can't depend on who the person is that would die in you place, if they're good or evil. It's completely random.

I'd die so another could live. If I ended up dying so that some mass murderer or rapist could live, then I'd be pissed off. Well, I guess it's a bit impossible to be mad once you're dead, but you get my point.

I agree jamaica, we do have the right to judge if others are worth dying for. This question, then, brings out one's belief in human quality in general, as well as one's self. Because any random person in the world is at risk in this scenario, the matter becomes deciding how "good" the average person is and how good you yourself are. If you believe you're better than the average person, it'd be statistically more logical to let them die. Then there's also the whole self-preservation thing, which is what bumbed my number up to eight instead of lower (I don't really think I'm eight times better than the average person). So it's really finding a balance between one's opinion of themself, one's opinion of the rest of the world, one's own ethics, and one's desire to live. Where's the balance fall? For me it's eight. For conflictingzest, it's ten (love the straight answer). More numbers! They make it more interesting.

It depends on the situation. For me, there is a limit. If those people are worth dying for, well, i would die for them if it means that two or three others wont but as i said, only if they are worth dying for. If those people are criminals or they have done something bad, well i guess, i would choose my own life then. Its better than saving someone who happens to be a murderer? I mean really..... think about it: Would i ever exchange my life for someone who isnt worth it? Good, if the person is kind, have helped others and respects other people, that i would die for. I know that it is kind of a discrimination thing if we choose whom we want to die for but its not really discrimination... We are not God, we are humans so i guess we have the will to choose. For me, i would rather save my life if the people whom i will die for is not worth it. I think good people are worth dying for, for they have made the best out of what life gives them. Big Grin

Well, I guess that answer makes sense. I wish more people put actual numbers though. The thing about letting Bush/Cheney die made me think of a different question: Is letting someone die the same thing as murdering them yourself? I think it isn't as bad because you are not the direct source, but I can't get that through my friend's head. What do you guys think?

I agree with toxicfox... except for the second part. Well... maybe Cheny, since he's going to die soon anyway, but that's beside the point

If I didnt know who it was, I would die for them to live. A life is a life, whether its mine or someone elses. I couldnt live with the thought of killing someone else, hell, I'm a vegetarian and I feel bad for killing the plants that I eat.

Now, if I know that it was my life and Cheneys, or Bushs, then I would chose to live to better humanity.. then commit suicide over the guilt.

It still all depends on the situation. I won't know the situation till I get there, so I can't tell you.

Random question: There's a street full of people, and all get this option. They all choose to die for the others. Who dies and who lives?

I would let the other person die.

I don't know how many people would have to die in order for me to die instead. Maybe 49732?

When the president talks to god are the conversations brief or long? Does he ask to rape our women's rights and send more farm kids off to die? Does God suggest an oil hike when the president talks to god?

Oh, but that's the point of it. You don't have any idea who the people are. You're risking it. If you would judge yourself "better" than most people, then chances are that less would be lost should you choose them. As for the means of the death, we're talking "alive one second, dead the next." No pain involved. Of course you have to live with it if you chose them... Can you answer?

Everything depends on the situation. That's me being honest to myself. It all depends on who the people are and how they will die.
