Hear hear. That's the ONE thing I've been sure I would die over in my life. My convictions on that are probably even stronger than dying for my freedom, and that's saying something.

It's worth dying for what your heart and soul truly believe in.
I think this discussion is so personal that it's almost impossible to debate.

Nothing is really worth dying for unless it's your true love, a friend, a complete stranger, or family (if you actually get along with them).

If this is a "what if," world peace and complete tolerance. If its more a physical thing, my brother and possibly a few other family members. If I'd worked for a cause and was killed, then at least I'd died for something I belived in. "If a man is not willing to die for something, then he is not fit to live." --MLK (not exact quote)

quote: Also, what would you die for? Would you die for a cure for AIDS? would you die for peace on earth forever? would you die for your little brother or sister to live?
To be honest, for AIDS and for peace on Earth, I would think about it. For my sister, I would. Then again, ultimately in life, you are alone, and so, you must be selfish at one point or the other.

IF that was the case? Then sure, why not. But I'd still reserve giving up my life for my family and people I love.

The point isn't about it will or it won't but...what if it could? Play with a "what if" because to imagine it is currently the only way to answer that question.

It's impossible for my death to cure AIDS. Unless I somehow contracted AIDS, and the entire virus disappeared except me. Or if I carried the cure in one of my vital organs. People who say they'd die for world peace or AIDS are just trying to get their names in history books the easy way.

That whole race thing is creeping me. As is the fact that you use the word "Aryan." Sounds a little too Hitler Youth for me.

Well I don't know but I'd sure as hell die trying to save the Human Race from aliens. Something tells me that reactionary didn't mean it that way though... quote: I would never die to be a martyr for the world, i.e. a cure for AIDS, world peace, etc. That's boring and self-absorbed.

"Many people have died for their beliefs... The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe." ~ Brom, "Eragon" by Christopher Paolini What you're willing to live and suffer for is the real question-death is so inevitable there's no big deal about it in my opinion. But hey, if dying tomorrow meant a cure for AIDS I'd do it. I'd die if it meant finding a cure for eczema even...*stratches ankle in the same spot that has itched for nearly a week* Basically, my point is, I'm not afraid of dying so it really isn't that big a deal. If someone came up and shot me for being a Jew I'd be like "Oh that's nice, b******!" lol yet every single day I see the swaztika carved on my desk in math, drawn on my old school locker, the backwards one some guy drew on my book to see if I'd get mad. lol I just laughed at him-can't even draw it right. That's what I put up with, not the madman with the gun. That's what I see as important, the stuff that's HAPPENING, not what COULD happen. So yes, I'd die for many things, but it's the living for them that I count as special.

I would never die to be a martyr for the world, i.e. a cure for AIDS, world peace, etc. That's boring and self-absorbed. But I would absolutely put my life on the line for (some of) my family, and some of my close friends. Besides, it's much more important to make your life worth something rather than your death.

Hehe. You can't die for Allah, but you can sure as hell die for God! Worth, that's the sort of situation that I'd have to actually be in to decide what I'd do. I'm not sure I'd be able to live with the guilt of letting a loved one die when I could have died to save them, but then again, thinking about putting them in the position of seeing me die doesn't sound any more appealing.
