We have everything before us, every option open, we have never been so free. But now it is our minds that prevent us from rising, our own self induced worthlessness that prevent us from achieving. This isn’t truth, it is a lie that we feed to ourselves. We don’t know hunger, we don’t know want, we have everything given to us, everything set out. So we go through life, living the expected, not knowing real challenge. So we create challenge, the challenge of our minds, making things harder than they really are. We’ve taken out the struggle of survival, and it is that struggle that makes us human, so we have synthesized this struggle, created it, and felt it in our hearts even though its not there.

What we need is inspiration, we need vision and we are a generation who has neither. We have nothing to fight for, the battle has either already been won or we figure it’ll be fought by someone else. So we live our lives with no real purpose and are at risk of accomplishing nothing and being forgotten.

We are just shells of greatness, we have potential but refuse to realize it, we have been told we are in the world of opportunity, but the opportunity of what? We are the spoon fed generation, the ones who want to feel, but have nothing to feel for.

We have no united cause, we have no wars to fight, we are too concerned with our own battles to acknowledge the world around us. This should be our struggle, the struggle to fix our fractured generation. To motivate each other because its obvious we can’t motivate ourselves.

I would normally be horrified at the future after observing my peers, but they're not going to inherit the world. They're the next generation of shooting victems, crack whores, and inmates. Mostly inmates, if they're botched attempts at stabbings, shootings, rioting, and theft at school are any indicator. We're breeding a generation of criminals who cannot even fulfill that niche. They cannot think futher than 5 seconds into the future.

Yes. I know I sound crass when I talk about my school. Most of my classmates have horrible lives and are too caught up in violence and poverty to think of anything else. But really, the insanity of this place is...well....insane. It beats out every other school in the district for disorder and serious incidents, but we never make the news because our students haven't figured out how to smuggle their guns and knives into the building.

How sad. For this generation I mean. I think that for many people now it's all about themselves and getting their wants and needs. It's about getting to their goal no matter who they have to step over. People have become more cold and selfish. Perhaps that has to do with it. I am not saying all of them, just a big majority.

My school would be a perfect example. Well most high schools would probably be a good example but add some money in there and its a whole lot worse.

Yeah... now it probably will. My bad.

To actually respond to the post, I think that the previous generation wanted so badly to make their mark on their world that they completely screwed it up and or now reluctantly handing it over to us and expecting us to clean up the mess. Thanks to them, we do have actual problems that need to be dealt with. As for our generation, most of us are seemingly unaffected by the disasters our parents caused, but I still don't think our problem is just that we don't care. I think that deep down everyone does, it's just that passion isn't encouraged. People prefer you to be apathetic than to be angry so that's what we're encouraged to be; by the media, by our schools (in general, not that one cool teacher), by society. And no one wants to be the first to go against the norm.

No. Fight Club would not kill this topic.

Sphinx saying not to dwell on it might have.

I fell into depression after reading Fight Club. That's a kick ass book..Try not to dwell on it; it can make you life seem less important (as it SHOULD!)

To fix this fractured generation, we need to find the fractures first. Hate, intolerance, preconcieved ideas that hurt others not help them. We need to find these fractures in ourselves first, and fix ourselves. You can't save someone from drowning when you're falling under yourself.. We need to learn, first, how to float ourselves, and that means, we need to find the holes in our boat, we need to find the flaws in ourselves.
