I am partial to Georgia O'Keefe and Frieda Kahlo (sp?)Both were rather dark and fascinating women who lead interesting lives. If you're not familiar, you should check them out. I also like, Vermeer, Da Vinci, and Picasso, of coure because they expanded the defeniton of art through technique and subject. Their art is very wonderful, original.

Pollock, Marcel Duchamp how can you not like a guy who painted a moustache on the Mona Lisa ? , both the Kahlos, Warhol, Da Vinci, Barbara Kruger, Monet, Michelangelo <did you know his last name was Buonarroti? > Margret Bourke White, Dorothea Lange, Kathe Kollwitz, Degas, Munch, Picasso theres a few others but i can't think of them at the moment.. my apologies some of those are photographers not painters ..
That might not make any sense but right now I'm too tired to explain it to you or to care .......

Wow!! Salvador Dali is my favorite artist, too! My favorite painting is Meditative Rose. I love the way his art is so bold and bright. It has alot of small detail in it also. He has to be one of the best surrealist of his time!

I myself prefer Chinese art. It is graceful and personifies Beauty and Truth, as art should. Having said that, Dalis art offers us a reflection of the absurdness of human nature, like an artistic satire. It is an interesting stly of art which can teach us much about the human mind.

Although i am British, i find Chinese Art magnificant. It is graceful and inspiring and is amazingly beutiful. Here are some examples of more modern Chinese brush work: I think Salvador Dali is far too abstract to show us what art should show us, a reflection on the soul or beauty of a thing. In his paintings, Dali does exactly the opposite and warps natural shapes to show us an image of supposed truth.

Meh.... I have 3 books on Dali... even his quotes suit me.... he was a strange man indeed. Anyone here is an artist themselves? I paint (gouache and watercolors), and sculpt.

I have a friend who's CRAZY about salvador dali, so I looked at some of his work, and I like a lot of it, it's really interesting. I'm not really that familiar with a lot of art, but I always liked Van Gogh, even though that's sort of cliche. Starry Night Over the River Rhone is my favorite.

I had no IDEA there was a section for art fanatics here, AMAZING! I love Dali, he is such a fascinating painter. I actually heard a lecture given by a proffessor at NYU on how much he was influenced by Leonardo da Vinci, it was really powerful, especially in terms of symbolism and how they viewed themselves as painters. I personally adore pre-raphelelite painters, their subject matter and grasp of gentle idealism and sincerity. For example, this is one of my favorites by Dante Gabriel Rosetti, the annunciation, painted in 1849:
