Lol Okay I get your cousin being pissed-off but I doubt Rowling is doing this because she wants attention (of all things). And I doubt that she's milking Harry Potter...as there isn't really much left to milk heh.

I'm with you there. HP was phenomenal, and her milking it after what she already meant to say has been said will probably only result in diluting the whole story. quote: My cousin was so pissed off with JKR's announcement about Dumbledore that she started a facebook group about it: Dumbledore is gay cuz JKR wants attention!
Yeah, because she was totally in danger of falling out of the public eye... Maybe if she made the announcement a couple years after the release of the seventh movie when all the hoopla had died down. For now, I still can't go a day without hearing about HP from someone, and Dumbledore's sex life is usually the last thing they want to discuss.

quote: No, supposedly she is going to write more books in the HP universe, just not about Harry this time, about someone else. No information was released on who it was about or when it takes place though.
Hmm... who said this? On her website she said that if you didn't hear something directly from her or her publishers, you shouldn't get your hopes up. It'd be awesome if she is though.

Do you mean the encyclopedia she said she might write?

I'm assuming everyone heard the rumours about the additional Harry Potter books Rowling is supposedly writing?

If this bit of news was important in any way, we wouldn't have to have the author tell us. It would have been self-evident in the books. Since it adds nothing important to the story (other than a renewed awkwardness during the heart-to-heart talks Dumbledore has with Harry), I think it was a bad idea to come out and say Dumbledore was gay. What was the point? I think Rowling is just upset no one's paying any attention to her now that she's done with the series. In retrospect, some things do make more sense, but I still think that if it was very important, we would have found out simply through reading the books.

I wish I had never found out about Dumbledore. It really doesn't add to the story. Malfoy rocks. Voldemort wouldn't have been defeated if not for him.

The thing is I would have actually liked Malfoy if he wasn't such a douche.

quote: Except he ends up with a wife and a kid...
And that means absolutely nothing. Malfoy did what was expected of him, didn't fight society, his family's expectations. Let's face it: Malfoy's not a fighter, he takes the easy way out. In this case, marrying a woman and having a kid is the easy way out.

I heard from a non-reader (shun the non-believers! Shuuuuunnnn!) that a character was gay before I knew the character, so I had time to guess. My first guess was Neville. My second was Dumbledore. It really does fit pretty well. And actually, now that I know he had a crush on Grindelwald, I amend what I said below: it does add to the story.
And then, as the books were told, Fina replied: "A can of worms, my dear friend? What has this to do with reason?"

It isn't a publicity stunt at all, in my opinion. It adds alot more understanding to the plot and to Dumbledore's life, and now we know much more about where he comes from. I often wondered if she included members of the gay community in Harry Potter, and now the answer is yes. It's great because now, if there was ever any homophobic HP readers, they might think a tad differently now, knowing one of their heroes is, and it didn't change anything about him. quote: Good luck getting the church to be pro-Potter now.
Maybe what the world needs is something that doesn't have to get the church to approve of?
