Well, this may seem odd, but this is how I get inspiration. I think of a really sad event or time, like a breakup with my first love, or a relative dying. Then, write down everything you feel. It makes the emotions genuine. Also makes for a powerful ballad... Or by inspiration, did you mean songs people will give you?
