I think people truly are born a little good and a little evil...
it's just the way you sway them with media and friends and family. that decides. I'd like to hear your opinions though, thanks

Humans are predators. Modern humans have learned to suppress their violent tendencies, though. In order to form coherent societies, we as a species had to abandon our wild background. However, there are some people who can't suppress those tendencies, and they're the people society labels as "bad". Why? Simply because they don't conform to what society deems is "good".

That's my opinion. Good and evil are relative terms. As an example: many people in the United States during the early 20th century believed that ethnic cleansing was a good idea. But when Adolf Hitler came to power in Germany and began actively pursuing a policy of ethnic cleansing by violent methods, ethnic cleansing became "evil", even though many people had supported it as a good idea not even a decade before.

Society's views on what is good and what is bad change over time. Look at slavery, public executions, religious oppression. There are many examples.

So, when a person does something that society as a whole doesn't like, that person is branded as "evil". In reality, they are not conforming to society's version of morality. It could be that they do have an explicitly violent agenda, but even then, they're considered evil only because violence is evil according to society as a whole.

Or something like that. Moral relativity is a complex topic and it's not the focus of this board, so I kept things short-ish.

i don't think that there is such think as 'good' and 'bad.'

i think that some people have the power to empathize with others, and some don't. children are born without that capability: they don't understand when they're hurting people.

I agree with you too. But in the beginning, for the most part, I think were are all innocent and "good". The other factors mentioned come into play and help form a person's personality. But really, even evil people think that they are doing "good" things and somehow rationalize their behavior.

For me, theres no such thing as black and white. Just grey. different shades of grey. Everyone has the capability to do/be good or evil, but never absolute. Personality, learned behavior, media, society, and other factors all come into play. We're learning about this in sociology, the "theories" of how one becomes deviant. Some of the theories are pretty funny.
