This quote is accurately describing me at the moment:

I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much. --Mother Teresa

I am very close to having a nervous breakdown.

My mom is mad at me now because I'm not able to sit around and talk to her because I have my statement to write. Apparently, the grades of four criminal law students are nowhere near as important as sitting around and listening to her whine about how unhappy she is to be home...

Well you're doing a good job with it, and it is true that if you're doing a presentation, you never follow exactly what you wrote anyway.

Yeah...right now I'm working on content and including everything I need. The problem I'm having is writing with a slant to my side...without being argumentative (which you're not supposed to do in opening statements and the other side can call me on). Then I still have to make it sound decent and learn it well enough to present it with minimal to no notes.

Meg, I like it, but I think the second paragraph is a bit chopy, doesn't flow well.

Try this:

Pat Stone-Flint was married and like any other married couple her and her husband had problems. Freddie, her husband was very influtential in starting the LEAP (learn to earn a paycheck) program at the Temple High School. Pat, devoted her, time, money and effort into the program as well; she knew what it was like to be a struggling student. Little did she know that it would by on of the students that she worked so hard to help that would fire the bullet that would ultimatly take her life on may 7, 1999.

Sorry for rewriting it, I just thought it sound better like that.

My opening statement is getting there...

Good morning ladies and gentlemen of the jury:

I am sure that many would agree that there are few things worse than seeing those we care about being hurt. The difference between us and the defendant is that we don't retaliate by killing those who hurt them.

Pat Stone-Flint was married and she and her husband had their problems just like any other married couple. Her husband Freddie was very influential in beginning the LEAP (Learn to Earn A Paycheck) program at Temple High School. Pat chose to devote her time, money and effort to the program as well; she knew what it was like to be a struggling student. Little did she know it would be one of the students this very program sought to help who would fire the bullet which ultimately took her life on May 7, 1999.

Sam Krupp is being charged with Voluntary Manslaughter in the death of Pat Stone-Flint. This means the killing was intentional, but lacking in premeditation. You will see evidence and hear from witnesses who knew the victim and were at the scene of the crime, which will prove that Ms. Krupp was not thinking reasonably at the time of this horrific event when she felt that taking the life of Mrs. Stone-Flint was a necessary action.

Sam Krupp may look like your average 18-year-old girl, but she has had a rather troubled past, gotten into some trouble and has been given multiple second chances in life…

It is now going to be up to you to see that Pat’s death will not go unpunished and that her killer is appropriately brought to justice.
