I just wanna know if people are really offended by the content of the Harry Potter books in reference to religion. Also, if those people who are vocal against these books have actually read them or if they are just repeating what other people who have not read the books are saying.

I hate my parents sometimes. There is more "magic" in The Silmarillion and the like of Tolkien. Chronicles of Narnia have magic too, but my parents say they're ok because They were written by two friends who were in some Christian Denomination or another. DUDE! READ THE BOOKS AND GET YOU OWN FREAKIN' OPINION! my mum saw the movie. I've seen the way they portray hogwarts, no wonder she feels scared. It's not like that!

witchcraft is an art, wicca is a religion, both witches and wiccans practice witchcraft.

It's just a story. If you read it and find it offensive then stop. And yes, I read them.

Okay magic may be ridiculous, I guess, but is entertaining. If you are planning on reading the Goblet of Fire and haven't gotten to the end yet don't read on. How could a religion based on good vs. evil be offended by a book that says...
"Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory." Dumbledore, Chapter 37 pg.628 (Canadian Edition) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Harry Potter, the movie, was ridiculous.
I haven't read the books, though.

I think this is just another example of open-mindedness and lack of it.

I'm Christian and I've read the books (shame on me).
I don't think it's right that people condem the books and don't even care if books tell people how to kill someone, or include stuff like human sacrifices. Okay, there are worse things out there than Harry Potter running about being a teenager.

Actually witchcraft is about casting spells. Wicca isn't. Witchcraft is simply the practice of natural magic, and Wicca is a religion. People can be witches and not follow the religion of Wicca, and people can be Wiccan and not practice magic.

I will love and harn none. I will live, love, die and live again. I will meet remeber know, and embrace once more. For the free will of ALL, and with harm to none. As I will It is done.

well Harry Potter websites get some really offensive e-mail in reference to religion. Check out the Wall of Shame at www.mugglenet.com and have a laugh at some of the stuff people wrote the guy who made the website. It is really quite rediculous.

People take witchcraft seriously, because it's a religion.
But don't get me started on that.
Harry Potter is offensive to some people, just like dropping cats off a roof to see if they land on their feet is offensive to other people.
Everything is offensive to someone, even if it's not logical.

i dont think there is anything wrong with the Harry Potter books. its really annoying how some people say they are evil. its not like the books are urging us to do witchcraft or anything like that. its stupid how some people take this stuff so seriously.
