You being here at YouthNOISE either means you like to think of yourself as an active or opinionated teen or you like to sound off about issues while sitting around.
There is, however, a significant lack of desire in his world's youth.
It's either that the earth is already too ****ed up
or that politics is corrupt, boring and unchangeable
or that I must go to college get a degree get a job (I'd like to be sucessful, rich, or famous, but I'll settle for living a normal life and feeding the prosperity of others) etc.
Where has the zest and zeal gone?
Why are we all talking about living life the way we want btu no one does anything?
We defend our points of view against the opposition but don't care enough to find anything new. We use the same old arguments rhetoric and ideas.
Buy now you're already bored with this! It's all been said before.
So why isn't anything changing?!
Where is the youth?!
Silent, content to be ignored.
We're apathetic and ignorant. We don't know and we don't care.
Sure tehre are the outliers that get into the good school, those that become sucessful. One of us will have to become president someday (whether or not anyone will vote for him/her is doubtful). But no one really goes beyond predetermined limits.
If it were up to me I'd stage a nation-wide youth strike during school next year. No specific purpose, just find something you don't like and say you're striking because of that. Show you ***ing care about something. Just sit down, walk out, shout, act, build, make love, make war, make origami, disrupt, put some passion in it!
I preach, I don't practice what I preach. I am one of you, but I dont like who I am. I have accepted my problem.
Don't read a sentence you can't put an exclamation point on. Don't listen to anybody who tells you what normal or right. For g-d sakes don't listen to me!
I've seen the best minds of this generation destroyed by apathy.
blinded and subdued by false prophets
Not a care in the world
and that's what's wrong
we will die and no one will know
we will breed children who care even less
nothing will ever again change
until we self-destruct
and become obsolete
My rant is done
I'm going home
but I'm doing naked cartwheels
and singing as loud as I can
all the way

You seem to be speaking of the odd way of life in which only the things I don't care about are important.

It's interesting. School is basically running my life. When I wake up in the morning I know in 20 minutes I will be leaving for school. Then I'm there from 8 to 3. When I get home, it's not my night, it's merely a temporary break before I go to school tomorrow. I recently resigned myself to being a robot for school, since it's too hard to really be involved in anything else. When the weekend comes, it's simply a little rest until Monday.

All I can say is I can't wait until I can get up, look down the path of my life before me, and say I can go in any path I want. I can go get a job I want, or get a minimum paying one that takes up no time. Right now, my life for the next few years is pretty much planned out for me, day in and day out.

Oh well. Apathy. The hours I spend on this site will never matter, will they? No one I ever meet will know the funny moments of yn. Yet I continue to post. I could be doing homework instead.

I could stop going to school and go train in the mountains. 2 years of training in martial arts, versus two years of highschool. In which do you think I will learn more? Become a better person? Yet there is little choice, because I really only have one option if I want to succeed in society. Leaving and doing something for 2 years, no matter how cool and embettering it would be, would pretty much irreparably damage my ability to attain a high position in society.

Well, at least as the self-professed loudmouth exemplifies, Dante's analysis is still relevant today.

Two things, LoudMouth.
1. Do not EVER bump old threads back like this- it bugs us to no end.
2. You are a perfect example of a stereotypical teenage girl- and that is not a good thing.

a lot of teenagers to waste their lives that way but it isn't fair to say that that is all any teenagers think or care about! most of my friends hardly watch any tv shows, a lot of my friends refuse to date but do like to hang out with people of the opposite sex just as friends, the majority of my friends are A or B+ students and don't spend hours shopping. Yes, a lot of us teenagers are selfish brats who don't care about anyone besides ourselves but there are many of us who do. it's not fair to lump us all together. considering the amount of friends i have...i would say a lot of teenagers care!

I do and don't agree.
some teens care about other things but also care about their education.
some teens don't give a F*** about their education.

Wow, I'm way to apathetic to bother to read your posts... So I'll just whine. I loved being apathetic, giving a **** blows. I'm in my Senior year and two years behind everyone else and I'm having a mental breakdown trying to catch back up. ARGH!!! God, I can't remember the last time I got a good night's sleep... And I'm not getting one tomorrow. F***ing SAT II's. F***ing job, goddam play... Okay, I've finished b*tching for today, my post is short. People can read it quickly. try being more concise, longer is seldom better... Unless we're talking about something else of course... Wink God, I'm a perv, bye.

Ignorance is not bliss, ignorance leads to holocausts and mass suicides and domestic abuse and tyranny of the majority.

Look on the tv you see elaborate coverage of Kobe Bryant's rape case while a minuscule message scrolls across the bottom of the screen anouncing the murder of 10 innocents. The world hates us, and laughs as our ignorance grows. Swartzeneggar, or however you spell it, barely graduated from high school and yet he has become the bumbling governor of California!

No one cares to change anything because nothing is hurting them now. People think I'm happy why should i care about the starving children on the streets when i am safe and warm in my house.

The United States is about conformity and doing the least possible to get what you want, to be just satisfied. Many are just trying to be like everyone else. God forbid you speak your mind or reveal that you're capable of intelligent thought. Enthusiasm is treated like a joke, given a skeptic glance and then spit upon.

And yes i am a hypocrite bc i do nothing about it but at least i am not apathetic. that is a start

Apathy is infectant!
I confess I always try to fit in with the majority, not that I don't dare to be different,I just know I'm not special enough to be excellent,I won't waste my time to a wannabe rebel(sensing the apathy?).
As most people around me have got used to everything, have seen almost everything, have heard all kinds of instigations, they hardly get excited about making a difference.Being with all these "calm" kids,I could feel my zest fading away...
Yet I hope to see someone stand out,who is able, zealous and confident to change the things we are against,do the things we stand up for...hmm,I have a reason to preach, too~~

I am very apathetic. Why? Because I choose to be. Who are you to tell me I need to get up and be excited?

Good rant, well-said.

I'm not sure a worldwide school strike would change a great deal unless it was for a definite cause. Naked cartwheeling sounds tempting though.

What you say is true. If it's any comfort, I think you can make a difference to the lives of others without even realising you're doing it. It doesn't have to be a spectacular gesture to mean something.

If we are talking grand gestures, my school did have a haphazard walk-out just as the war in Iraq was breaking out. It was completely pointless, of course, but it was impressive. There was something breathtaking about the sight of several hundred school kids spontaneously running out of school and charging down the road. I don't know if they even knew what they were protesting about, but I found it inspriring that they felt pushed to do something like that. Maybe we aren't totally braindead.

Politics is corrupt and boring - what's new?

What can I say? In an imperfect world, sometimes all you can do is the best you can. Take every opportunity to make your life less ordinary, less apathetic, any chance, however small, to make a difference, and at least that's something.

I love your poem or harangue... a strike by the youth or demonstrations is not senseless but the point is that we live in a world where poeple don't really care for others in predicaments..........A lot of countries collect IMF loans needed for their development but these funds don't get utilized for the real usage..What's the youth going to do about that .

Countries where child labour is very ubiquitous and they believe that might make their families generate money to survive..That, the youth can't change until poverty is eradicated.

Tell the government in the palestine to stop the propaganda that others nations are evil and maybe terrorism will abate.

well a strike won't mean much if you don't have a real purpose. a strike or a walkout won't mean much if just a couple of people do it...what effect will it have?
I agree that there are tons of things wrong with this world, but they are at our convience. sweatshops? europe does it cheaper. AIDS? we can educate but that won't make a guy put on a condom if he really doesn't want to. War? want to stop it? how? stand in front of George w. Bush and tell him to stop it? he would laugh in your face. It is great to think that we could all rebel against the government but really........there is no escaping them. You have a job, get a paycheck? i don't know about you but i really like getting a $500 check every april from uncle sam. we are all products of the government. we have social security cards, licenses, go to school, recieve financial aid, gone to hospitals...geez everything we do is government regulated!
as for us not behind the words we use, no one on the internet will know for sure if we are behind our words, but we all would like to think we are. It is important to say something and do as you say. YOu add intergrity to yourself, but that is not the way people always are. People will change and grow. Maybe in 10 years George bush will realize that this war really did not cure anything, just added more violence.
no one will listen to youth because they think we are immature, because alot of us have proven ourselves to be. Look at the kids around us. It is not possible to always stand alone either so...what is the youth to do?

UUgirl13, I noticed you didn't care enough to even say who said what. So get YOUR facts straight.

As for teenagers who care, yes, many do. However, more don't. For the past week, I've been explaining this site to my cousin (she's 10 mo. younger than me)and she doesn't get it. She's convinced that I'm super smart, when in reality, it's that I'm mildly informed.

The thing is, we don't care to know, care to learn. I tried telling people about Abercrombie's sweatshops, and they were like "Who cares, it's not me." It's sickening.

As for a protest, I love the idea. I myself protest thru myself (making controversial shirts, being obnoxious and randomly selecting people to spread the word to, my writing, etc) So if anyone has some creative shirt ideas about this they'd be willing to let me have, lemme know big grin

I too, love it when Dante rants (or ranted, he's not been on the site for quite a while) mostly because he does it so well, and is so educated about it.
